NGI Workshop @ Web Summit 2018

The Next Generation Internet (NGI) team will be at the Web Summit 2018 in Lisbon from 5-8 November, and will host a workshop “Building together the Next Generation Internet (NGI), funding opportunities for internet innovators”. The workshop will take place on 6 November, 15:00 – 16:00.
The NGI workshop will introduce the Next Generation Internet initiative, which was launched by the European Commission in 2016 to shape a better internet for the future – an internet for humans. Developers, start-ups, researchers are invited to join the NGI team to discuss tech, policy and business challenges as well as to discover new funding opportunities.
The workshop will provide the opportunity to share knowledge with leading experts from a variety of disciplines, including interactive technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, hyper-connected sociality, etc., and will be highly interactive.
NGI workshop speakers will include: Olivier Bringer, Stefano Foglietta and Jean-Luc Dorel, all from the European Commission. They will be joined by Michiel Leenaars from NLNet, Isabella De Michelis from ErnieAPP and Monique Calisti from Martel Innovate, who will also act as a moderator.
The NGI initiative will be present for the whole duration of the Web Summit at the European Commission-branded booth. There will also be an NGI Salon on Wednesday 7 November from 6pm-7.30pm at the Social Innovation Village, entitled: You have ten years to save the Planet – A Millennials’ narrative for the Next Generation Internet.

The Web Summit is one of the world’s biggest IT conferences, with 70,000 attendees expected representing a diverse range of industries including ICT, media, entertainment, fashion, sport and politics. Headline speakers include internet inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee, European competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager, Microsoft President Brad Smith and FC Barcelona footballer Ronaldinho.
