On 28 September 2022 – Gemma Carolillo, Deputy Head of Next Generation Internet Unit, European Commission, presented the NGI initiative at the Connect University Autumn School Secure & Sustainable Digital Infrastructures.

I installed my first open source operating system, OpenBSD, and wrote my first C-code, when I was 9 years old, back when I was growing up in Switzerland. I was inspired by the idea of a sentient computer (Artificial General Intelligence) controlling a robot in Knight Rider.
Bringing together the Open Internet Search community in Europe, involving science, computing centres, libraries, politics, legal and ethics experts and society, the Open Search Symposium series provides a forum to discuss and advance the ideas and concepts of Open Internet search in Europe.
NGI ultimately addresses the need for a more fair, safe, resilient, sustainable, human-centred and decentralised internet. Equity, Diversity and Inclusion are the backbones of this envisioned future.
