NGI Sargasso focuses on catalysing European collaboration with the US and Canada on topics such as trust and data sovereignty, digital identity, internet architecture renovation, decentralised technologies, and standards, which are of utmost importance to shape the future Internet.
The project will work in close cooperation with the US and Canada on the development and experimentation of new ideas, implementation of prototypes, and contribution to standards and open-source communities on technology trends with the potential to reshape tomorrow’s NGI technologies and services. This transatlantic collaboration is a fundamental factor to nourish a future of synergetic evolution across countries of technology and standards that intrinsically improve society.
NGI Sargasso will run five Open Calls for joint proposals for transatlantic teams working on the mentioned emerging topics, and plans to support up to 96 projects that will benefit from:
- Up to 100,000€ in equity-free funding
- Up to 9-month Capacity-building

- European Science Foundation, organisation promoting the highest quality science in Europe to drive progress in research and innovation, with a network of over 40,000 experts across all scientific disciplines and over 83 countries of affiliation;
- Mobile World Capital Barcelona, ecosystem builder driving the digital advancement of society with an international network in Canada and the US;
- SPLORO, cascade funding experts with experience in the NGI ecosystem;
- AUSTRALO, marketing agency specialising in growth hacking for Research and Innovation and experience in transatlantic community building.
- US IGNITE, organisation strongly linked to the US research ecosystem that will support the expansion of the US.
