Can we improve the efficiency of search and can we shift the balance of power between technology providers and users?
That is the mission of this latest, fourth call of NGI Zero Discovery which opened 1 June with a deadline for submission of 1 August, 2019.
Millions of people depend on specific intermediaries to find a hotel, to search about facts or to fall in love, with results selected based on presentation and ranking.
The challenge is open to researchers and developers. Content and communities can be linked and discovered through use of open standards for annotation and metadata. Non-traditional modalities can be improved upon such as voice search that protects users’ privacy. Projects can help create an open, trustworthy and reliable Internet for all.
Between 2019 and 2021, NGI0 Discovery will award 5.6 million EUR to small to medium-sized R&D grants towards improving search and discovery.
New ideas and core technologies can help society tackle hard but very important questions with significant social and economic consequences.
NGI0 Discover is seeking project proposals between 5,000 and 50,000 EUR, with the potential to scale them up if there is proven potential.
