NGI Germany @ Bitkom Roundtable 2018

January 24, 2018 @ 13:00 - 18:30

After a series of conferences and round tables about „Future Internet“, next generation networks, broadband and 5G in the last five years the Bitkom Akademie and deutsche ict + medienakademie want to analyse and discuss the development of next generation internet (NGI) in an executive roundtable on 24th January 2018. Together with experts from relevant suppliers such as CISCO, Ericsson, Huawei and Nokia as well as users of bandwidth like German television ZDF and Swiss OTT-Company Zattoo we will especially discuss future perspectives and opportunities for a better, democratic and value-oriented human-centric internet, particularly by highlighting the importance of the collaboration of society and technology.

During the last ten years many revolutions regarding network structures have been announced. More and more solutions are realised through software instead of hardware and network functions are made automatic. Examples are cloud solutions, firewalls, routing, load balancing, software-defined networks and network functions virtualisation.

In contrast to earlier projects regarding future internet (e.g. clean slate) there will still be the need of tremendous modifications of the existing network structures. Also different perspectives and solutions like edge computing, the IoT, the 5G eco system need to be included. In addition, values like openness, cooperation across borders, decentralisation, inclusiveness, transparency and protection of privacy need to be taken into account. In cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS and the Broadband Association BREKO the executive roundtable will be followed by a NGI workshop the next day 25th January 2018 at Fraunhofer FOKUS.
