NGI funding opportunities for Self-Sovereign Identity Projects

NGI is supporting research and innovation in Self-Sovereign Identity through The European Self-Sovereign Identity Framework Lab (eSSIF-Lab), which has just opened the first two NGI open calls, on infrastructure and business-oriented projects.

eSSIF-Lab Infrastructure-oriented call is now open!

NGI eSSIF-Lab will support the development and testing of novel scalable and interoperable applications using eSSIF-Lab infrastructure or the provision of components to this infrastructure.

Solutions proposed must be in a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 3 to 5 and proposed applications should fall within the Self Sovereign Identity (SSI) concept (i.e. technologies which allow individuals to control their electronic identities and guard their privacy).

Open source SSI components developed as a result of this open call will be applied at a later stage in areas such as HealthTech, e-Government, Education or by proposals in the generic track of Open Disruptive Innovation. Hence, applicants shall be willing and able to work in an agile way with a good deal of communication and interaction with other participants in the eSSIF-Lab ecosystem, together with developing the eSSIF-Lab Framework and testing the interoperability of delivered components.

The call targets innovators (such as outstanding academic research groups, hi-tech start-ups and SMEs), legally established/resident in a Member State of the EU or in a H2020 associated country.

Closing date is 30 June 2021, 13.00 (CET) with a cut-off date on 30 October, 2020.

Business call for European start-ups and SME to develop generic commercial competitive SSI components and services

eSSIF-Lab will also support the development of SSI solutions, such as apps (e.g. for digital wallets) or protocols (e.g. for requesting or negotiating verifiable credentials and responding to such request) which allow for the integration of existing and upcoming SSI technologies (blockchain-based or not).

Solutions proposed must be in a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 6 to 8 and in an Investment Readiness Level (IRL) from 5 to 7 and proposed apps or protocols should fall within the SSI concept (i.e., technologies which allow individuals to control their electronic identities and guard their privacy ).

Generic commercial competitive SSI components and services developed as a result of this open call will be applied at a later stage in areas such as HealthTech, e-Government, Education or by proposals in the generic track of Open Disruptive Innovation.

Visit and apply here.

Open Call will be running from 1 March until 30 April 2020, 13:00 (CET).

The call is open to single start-ups or SMEs, legally established in a Member State of the EU or in an H2020 associated country.
