A human-centric internet – trustworthy, resilient, sustainable and inclusive

EuroDIG 2018 (European Dialogue on Internet Governance) is currently taking place in Tbilisi, Georgia, 5-6 June 2018. EuroDIG is not a conference; it is a year round dialogue of European stakeholders. It is one of the most successful and most relevant regional initiatives on Internet Governance. This year Commissioner Mariya Gabriel presented her vision of the Next Generation Internet in a keynote video message.

Here are some highlights:

  • ‘The internet will be a human centric internet or an internet of humans. It will have to be trustworthy, resilient, sustainable and inclusive.’
  • ‘To implement this vision based on trust, human control, resilience, openness, diversity and inclusion, an intense effort in research and innovation will be needed, including at European level.’
  • ‘Now more than ever, we need to anchor our policies and our actions in our common European values.’
  • ‘Europe can embrace the digital technological revolution brought by the disruptive development of Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, immersive technologies, and others, or endure it. The choice is ours.’
