NGI @ ICT Proposers’ Day 2017

NGI @ ICT Proposers’ Day 2017, Budapest, 8-10 November 2017

The ICT Proposer’ Day 2017 was opened in Budapest on 8 November by the European Commission Vice-President Andrus Ansip[1]. The event this year focussed on the ICT related aspects of the new Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2018-20, in which EUR 6 billion out of the 30 billion H2020 package will be allocated to ICT projects from 2018 to 2020.

During the event, 2500 participants from all over Europe could find out more about the 2018 calls for proposals of the Work Programme, and get indications on how to best answer those calls. In addition, a major opportunity provided by the ICT Proposers’ Day was the chance for potential proposers to exchange project ideas and build quality partnerships with academics, researchers, industrial stakeholders, SMEs and government actors from all over Europe.

Networking sessions were organised by the DG CNECT colleagues on all the related areas of the Work Programme in the following 6 tracks: Next Generation Internet (NGI) & 5G, Digitising European Industry, European HPC & Data Infrastructures, Future and Emerging Technologies, Societal Challenges and Innovation.

In our networking session on NGI, we presented the two open NGI calls ICT-24 and ICT-31. All the important questions are answered in the Faq ICT Proposers day 2017 (PDF) document now available online.

At the NGI booth, we received many questions and engaged with interested and relevant stakeholders (i.e. NGI people) via an interactive photo booth to become an important part of the NGI ecosystem in order to shape a better future Internet – an Internet for People – an Internet of Human Values.

An increasingly successful part of the event is the “Face2Face” organised by the National Contact Points and their network project Ideal-ist, in which 6300 pre-arranged bilateral meetings took place between potential project partners. All ongoing NGI projects were present and met with potential proposers.

An important milestone that was reached with the ICT Proposers’ Day 2017, has been the launch of the NGI consultation platform as an openly available and easily accessible forum to foster discussions and input on the core priorities for the NGI initiative.

In short, the ICT Proposers’ Day 2017 was the place to be to learn more about NGI.
