DESCRIPTION:eSSIF-Lab: creating & funding an interoperable SSI infrastructure in Europe\nAttend this webinar to learn about the eSSIF-Lab (EU H2020) project with Oskar van Deventer and Rieks Joosten from TNO in the Netherlands. \nWHY: the eSSIF-Lab vision\, objectives\, and intended benefits;\nWHAT: its (initial) functional architecture/components;\nHOW: ways in which you may contribute (and possibly get funded for that). \n \neSSIF-Lab is an EU H2020 project whose purpose is to fundamentally improve real-life transactions via the Internet\, by focusing on next-generation mental models for such next generation transactions\, and using SSI technologies and implementations to realize them. \nToday\, conducting an online business transaction consist of an individual that fills in an online form\, which is subsequently processed (data is validated\, and a commitment decision is made). Filling in and validating forms can be quite tedious\, frustrating\, time consuming and costly. Digitally inexperienced people are known to give up on requesting (social) benefits they are entitled to\, enlarging the digital divide. But even people with an academic background and years of IT experience find this difficult. \nIn the SSI-enabled world as eSSIF-Lab sees it\, an SSI IT infrastructure can help to find\, provide and validate the needed data electronically. This makes filling and processing forms much easier (people no longer have to understand forms\, upload pdfs\, etc.)\, much faster (people no longer have to go places to get paperwork) much cheaper (saving tens of billions of euro’s – or even more – on verification/validation costs and IT-links). \nThe current wealth of SSI-related products\, technologies and standards is insufficient for realizing this vision\, because it generally lacks interoperability and scalability\, and does not address the process- and business levels. \neSSIF-Lab calls for a scalable and interoperable technological infrastructure that is very easy to use by and integrate with (the IT\, the processes and the business/policies of) arbitrary organizations and individuals to request\, obtain\, store and issue data objects whose meaning (semantics)\, origin (provenance) and integrity can be proved (verified) – which is basically what SSI is all about. \nThe main task of the eSSIF-Lab consortium is to coordinate between and fund projects of SME’s/startups (from EU/EEA countries) that contribute to the realization of this vision\, in terms of technology and/or associated business propositions\, and that will work together so as to benefit from each other’s contributions. \nRegister on this link to join the webinar on the 31st of March 8 am MST / 10 am EST / 3 pm CET.

As part of this work\, we used cutting-edge data-driven methods to map the latest trends in emerging technologies and social issues surrounding the internet. This webinar will showcase the most interesting insights we generated\, and guide you through using the methodologies developed DELab (Digital Economy Lab of the University of Warsaw) and Eurecat (Technology Centre of Catalonia)\, two partners in the EU Engineroom consortium. \nResearch clusters: Institutions who’s researcher work and publish together\nWhen it comes to making decisions about which new technologies or solutions to invest in\, where to focus our attention when it comes to future social challenges or other important decisions that require making our own guesses about what the future might hold\, we often rely on anecdotal evidence or outdated data\, such as company surveys or patent data (often a couple years behind the real trends). New big data methodologies have made it possible to use web data sources like Wikipedia\, Reddit\, Meetup or articles in the tech media\, which have proven much better at picking up early signals of change. In this webinar\, we will tell you more about how our data science team used\, for example\, natural language processing\, network analysis and machine learning to gather insights about how hacker communities talk about quantum computing\, where we find most startups active in the ethical AI  space\, or how the media has covered GDPR. \nAll the methodologies we’ve developed and the underlying data\, code and insights are freely available to the public\, have a look at our GitHub and Zenodo to learn more. DESCRIPTION:EU NGI Open Calls\nFrom €5\,000 to €200\,000: New funding opportunities for researchers and innovators – following the Horizon 2020 cascade funding mechanisms – are now open to build a better Internet. A webinar on 20 March will provide information about the open calls. The webinar will be held in Italian for the Italian community of stakeholders interested in submitting a project.\n \n \n\nNGI Research and Innovation Actions (RIAs) will provide support to third party players from academic research groups\, hi-tech startups and SMEs working on specific topics contributing to the development of an open\, trusted\, secure and inclusive internet of the next generation.
