SUMMARY:Webinar: Design Thinking
DESCRIPTION:Design Thinking\nWhen: 28 June 2022 from 11:00 to 12:00 CEST\nWhere: Online\nRegistration: https://meeting.zoho.eu/meeting/register?sessionId=1241414462 \nWebinar powered by NGI TETRA and NGI ATLANTIC \nWhen designing complex systems\, it is important to reduce risks as soon as possible.\nThis webinar will introduce you to a pragmatic design thinking approach that allows to formulate and test hypotheses quickly (“fail fast\, fail cheap”).\nThe proposed approach is hands-on\, validated on several high-tech cases and avoids the “fluffiness” that is sometimes associated with design thinking methods.\nWe will consider both the product/service and the business plan as prototypes that must be refined and tested to reduce risks. \n \nSPEAKER\n \nCEO at European Startup Network \nJan Bormans\, Ph.D.\, MBA\, has been active in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship for more than 20 years. Jan was strategy advisor at the IMEC nanotechnology research centre (that developed one of the first open innovation business models worldwide) and valorisation manager of the Flanders DC/Vlerick Business School knowledge centre. He has been actively involved in various start-up initiatives such as start it @KBC and startups.be since 2010. Jan has also co-founded Kunigi\, an interdisciplinary innovation agency. SUMMARY:Webinar: Visual Thinking
DESCRIPTION:When: 24 May 2022 at 14:00 CEST\nWhere: Online \nThe webinar focuses on the visual thinking experiential learning with a gamified approach methodology.\nVisual thinking is not exclusive to graphic designers\, painters\, musicians\, but is much more broad. It includes resourcefulness\, problem solving\, seeing an old problem from a new angle.\nThe only people who are not visual thinkers are those who lack curiosity. \nThe webinar focuses on identifying and working on a concept extracted from a product or service using modalities that are usually not explored\, even if it is uncomfortable to describe it.\nThis is the best way to stretch the brain and give birth to new ideas\, free of preconceived notions\, that will be useful in business or elsewhere in life. Thinking visually and spatially helps tackle complex problems by seeing how interdependent pieces fit together. \nThis approach\, when applied to innovative start-ups setting\, can drastically improve creative thinking skills and help facilitate discussions around the interconnectedness\nof ideas and innovation. These tool is also very effective in breaking down creative or idea blocks in teams and helping discover alternatives thinking patterns and carve out\nnew ideas. \n \nREGISTER HERE!\nFacilitators\nLouis Ferrini is the managing director of FVA new media research\, an Italian SME operating since 1990 in the field of new media communication and advanced ICT.\nHe is involved since 2000 in projects funded by the European Commission as project manager\, expert in human centric internet and game based solutions. His main area of interest is the design of enhanced ICT solutions\, serious and simulation games to support co-creation and mutual learning activities and to train participants on transversal competences and skills in the ICT\, learning\, societal challenges\, health\, security and circular economy domains. \nSusanna Albertini is partner and senior communication expert of FVA new media research from 1995\, she has integrated her specialization in Psychology of work and business organization with multimedia and new technology communication.\nSince 2000 she is involved as project manager and researcher in projects funded by the European Commission as expert in game-based training\, co-creation and creativity enabling factors\, communication\, impact and valorisation of research results.\nHer main area of interest is sustainable circular bioeconomy\, societal challenges with special focus on sustainable and inclusive growth.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Next Generation Internet Horizon Europe webinar
DESCRIPTION:DIGITAL FOR PLANET WEBINAR – SUSTAINABLE NEXT GENERATION INTERNET HORIZON EUROPE\nThe Sustainable Next Generation Internet Horizon Europe webinar aims to gather researchers\, innovators and policymakers that across a number of communities are at work to ensure the transition toward a green and sustainable internet that is resilient and inclusive. \nTHE MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO IDENTIFY RESEARCH AND INNOVATION CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN VIEW OF THE UPCOMING HORIZON EUROPE CALLS.\nWith the increasing dependence on the internet for many professional and private aspects of our lives\, as exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic\, there is a clear need to transition towards a safer\, more resilient and better sustainable internet. When focusing on environmental aspects\, the internet already uses 9% of global energy\, a total that by some of the most extreme estimates could go up to as much as 23% of global greenhouse emissions by 2030. \nNext generation internet technologies\, from core to access networks\, from the physical to the application layer\, must become greener\, both in the way they are developed and in the way they are deployed. Reducing the CO2 footprint of the internet requires public and private organisations\, as well as individuals\, to become aware of the environmental impact social media\, online advertising\, and online streaming\, to mention some\, are already having. All stakeholders must be engaged in redefining the way we use and consume internet technologies to ensure the twin green digital transition will sustain and grow our economy and society in a sustainable way. \nThe Sustainable Next Generation Internet Horizon Europe webinar is gathering top experts from public authorities\, industry and academia to present and discuss how energy-efficient technologies\, mechanisms\, and policies must be put in place at several levels to ensure a safe\, resilient and sustainable Internet. \nRelevant Horizon Europe initiatives will be presented\, as well as concrete activities planned by the Digital for Planet – D4P Sustainable Next Generation Internet Working Group\, in preparation of upcoming Horizon Europe Calls. \nMore info available here: https://digital4planet.org/event/digital-for-planet-webinar-sustainable-next-generation-internet-horizon-europe/\nRegister now here: https://ti.to/martel-innovate/digital-for-planet-webinar-sustainable-next-generation-internet-horizon-europe

SUMMARY:NGI Policy Summit 2020
DESCRIPTION:We are very excited to announce the NGI Policy Summit 2020. \nBringing together a coalition of internet changemakers from 28-29 September\, the Summit will lay out an ambitious European vision for the future internet and explore the policy interventions and technical solutions that can help get us there. The Summit is aimed at local\, national and international policymakers but we also welcome researchers\, innovators and civil society organisations who can share practical ideas for a more human-centric internet. Register your interest now to join us online. \n\nThe NGI Policy Summit is the flagship policy conference of the European Commission’s Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative. Organised by the City of Amsterdam and Nesta\, the conference aims to set out a compelling vision for the future internet; to empower policymakers across all levels of governance; and to strengthen the ecosystem of the NGI initiative. It provides a unique opportunity to focus on remedies\, not just diagnosis; to explore the concrete building blocks of our shared European vision for the internet\, and forge the coalition to make it happen. \nAimed at policymakers across all levels of governance (EU\, National and local/city-level)\, this year’s event will have a particular focus on the following five themes: \n\nSustainability & resilience: How we can we leverage connectivity and smart technologies to build a more sustainable and resilient and ethically-sourced internet\, and how we can conversely reduce the environmental footprint of the infrastructure underpinning the internet itself?\nTrust & identity: How do we give citizens control over their own data and help them regain trust in online interactions? How can we best use the opportunities offered by new models of online identity and decentralisation to help us do this?\nNew models for the data economy: How do we respond to the extreme centralisation of power in today’s internet economy and the dominance of business models that favour the concentration and exploitation of personal data? How can we help alternative governance and ownership models\, such as data commons and trusts\, succeed?\nInclusion: How do we ensure the future of the internet is more inclusive\, representative and human-centric? How can it help break down economic\, cultural and political barriers and contribute to European integration?\nCollective intelligence: How can Collective Intelligence be augmented through emerging technologies to identify problems or solutions\, mobilise citizens\, and solve the kinds of social challenges that individuals or technology alone cannot?\n\nRegistration\nThe event is free of charge. Register your interest now to join us online.

SUMMARY:EUCNC 2020
DESCRIPTION:EuCNC 2020: The Connectivity Revolution\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEuCNC 2020 goes Virtual\nDue to the world COVID-19 pandemic\, the Steering Committee of EuCNC 2020 has decided to change the format of the conference to an on-line virtual one\, instead of the usual face-to-face physical one in Dubrovnik.  In this new format\, there will be no Workshops\, Tutorials and Special Sessions.  On the other hand\, papers submitted to Regular Sessions that are accepted (the review process is being finalised) will be invited to be presented in an on-line mode\, after which will be submitted to IEEE Xplore as usual; accepted posters will also be presented on-line.  The format of Keynotes and Panels is being finalised with the speakers.  Further details will be provided as soon as possible.  We do regret all the inconveniences that this decision causes\, but we expect that all colleagues understand that it was not feasible to hold the conference in the usual format. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEuCNC 2020 is the 29th edition of a successful series of a conference in the field of telecommunications\, sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society and the European Association for Signal Processing\, and supported by the European Commission. This conference is one of the most prominent communications and networking conferences in Europe\, which efficiently brings together cutting-edge research and world-renown industries and businesses. The conference focuses on various aspects of 5G communications systems and networks\, including cloud and virtualisation solutions\, management technologies\, and vertical application areas. It targets to bring together researchers from all over the world to present the latest research results\, and it is one of the main venues for demonstrating the results of research projects\, especially from successive European R&D programmes co-financed by the European Commission.

SUMMARY:TETRA WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:Where to get money – investors\, grants or crowdfunding?\nWhen you have a great idea\, funding is nearly always the sticking point. How can you raise money to get it started? If you have a tech-based idea\, you may have an easier time attracting attention from venture capitalists or angel investors\, but as more and more startups work that angle\, finding the right investor is harder than ever. So how could you get your idea off the ground? In our webinar\, we will talk about 3 different ways to fund your idea – be it attracting an angel investor\, crowdfunging or grants. \nFirst\, who exactly is an angel and where do they invest? When should your startup choose an investor? An experienced angel investor and a founder of a VC Fund\, Riivo Anton\, who has invested in many different early-stage companies will give you an introduction to angel investing and answer your most burning questions about this form of funding.Second\, if you have a groundbreaking idea and you’re ready to campaign for it\, crowdfunding is the way to go – a number of startups have found their first success thanks to platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo that helped them raise investments as well as visibility and reach. Alternative financing for businesses across Europe has increased considerably in recent years\, becoming an important source of finance\, but it can still be slightly confusing which one to choose and whether it s really for you. \nWe will introduce some tools available to help you navigate in this world. \nThird\, grants offer the opportunity for your organisation to bring in new funding that does not need to be paid back! It is important to remember\, however\, that grants are competitive. A lot of time and preparation are required to find grant opportunities\, plan a project\, and then develop a proposal. An expert in grants from Civitta will introduce various European grants available and answer all of your questions on how to get one. \nFor more info: https://business.ngi.eu/news-events/webinars/webinar-3-where-to-get-money-investors-grants-or-crowdfunding-/ \nRegistration at: https://meetinglab.zoho.eu/meeting/register?sessionId=1294616560 \nAgenda\nWelcome and introduction to TETRA project\nKirsten Virks\, TETRA Project Coordinator 5 mins \nWho are angel investors and where to find them?\nRiivo Anton\, United Angels VC 10 mins \nCrowdfunding and other alternative financing options. SUMMARY:AI for Good - webinar series
DESCRIPTION:The AI for Good Webinar Series is a free\, live series of talks\, interviews and panels\, featuring inter-disciplinary experts whose ideas\, insights and solutions can help humanity leverage AI for good. The series will draw upon expertise from the AI for Good Global Summit community to share the latest developments in AI\, unique insights and promising use cases on global challenges from health to the environment and reducing inequalities. \n\nCOVID-19: Combining crowdsourcing and AI to tackle the pandemic\n14:00 – 15:30 Geneva | 08:00 – 09:30 New York | 05:00 – 06:30 San Francisco | 20:00 – 21:30 Beijing | 15:00 – 16:30 Moscow | 17:30 – 19:00 New Delhi | 19:00 – 20:30 Jakarta \nCrowdsourcing is often associated with the darker side of AI: clickworkers in sweatshops filtering out illegal content from social media sites\, to help train bots that will ultimately make the clickworkers redundant. In this session\, we look at some of the more positive synergies between AI and crowdsourcing\, through the lens of the coronavirus pandemic. \nOnline crowdsourced events such as the EUvsVirus hackathon held in April with over 20\,000 participants have proliferated under the current global lockdown\, bringing with them new lessons for how AI can contribute to better organizing large scale collaborations between humans. At the scale of citizen-driven science for Covid\, projects have emerged that combine AI and crowdsourcing to extract vital information from the flood of literature being produced or train algorithms that can analyse social media for important trends. As the EC launches a new initiative for grassroots crowdsourcing to tackle the SDGs\, this panel will discuss how AI can help crowds achieve more\, how crowds can help improve AI\, and where this marriage of people and machines might have the most impact on Covid-related research and innovation. \n\nCrowdsourcing – large numbers of humans performing micro-tasks – is often associated with the darker side of AI: clickworkers in sweatshops filtering out images from social media sites\, to help train bots that will ultimately make the clickworkers redundant. SUMMARY:TETRA WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:The contribution of NGI in re-design the post COVID-19 society\nWhat has been the contribution of the internet during the world lockdown?  What worked and what didn’t work? What are the emerging needs of the post COVID-19 society? How those needs can be addressed while respecting the fundamental values of privacy\, participation and diversity? What can be the contribution of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative for innovative human internet services? \nThis webinar will promote an interactive reflection to bridge the NGI mission with the rapid evolving needs of the post COVID-19 society. Together with the NGI community we will identify the emerging opportunities for NGI visionary start-ups\, researchers and developers. \nThe Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative aims at developing a more human-centric Internet supporting the values of openness\, decentralisation\, inclusiveness\, and protection of privacy while also giving the control back to the end-users\, in particular of their data\, in order to increase trust in the Internet. This requires more transparent services\, more intelligence\, greater involvement and participation\, leading towards an Internet that is more open\, robust\, more interoperable and more supportive of social innovation. In doing so\, NGI engages Internet’s best innovators in addressing tech opportunities as well as validate and test relevant minimum viable products and services in real market conditions. \nFor more info: https://business.ngi.eu/news-events/webinars/webinar-2-the-contribution-of-ngi-in-re-design-the-post-covid-19-society/ \nParticipate at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82514949705?pwd=bmRjNjZsdTVPUld5OWNsRjF6bWIwZz09\nPassword: 272831 \nAgenda\nWelcome and introduction to TETRA project – presentation\nKirsten Virks\, TETRA Project Coordinator 5 mins \nLet’s know each other – Interactive session\nLouis Ferrini and Susanna Albertini (moderators)\, FVA new media research 2 mins \nVideo 3 mins \nOverview of the webinar concept and expected outcomes\nLouis Ferrini and Susanna Albertini (moderators)\, FVA new media research 2 mins \nLet’s know each other – Interactive session with participants\nLouis Ferrini and Susanna Albertini (moderators)\, FVA new media research 2 mins \nWhat are the Next Generation Internet (NGI) values? – Presentation and interactive session with participants\nSusanna Albertini\, FVA new media research 5 mins \nWhat are the megatrends emerged in the last 2 months that will impact on the future internet? –Presentations and interactive session with participants\nLouis Ferrini\, FVA new media research 5 mins\nMonique Calisti\, NGI4ALL 5 mins\nJim Clarke\, NGI Atlantic 5 mins\nMirko Ross\, NGI Pointer 5 mins\nIwa Stefanik\, NGI Explorers 5 mins\nKatja Bego\, NGI Forward 5 mins\nEster Liquori\, GhostWriter.AI 5 mins\n \nHow Next generation internet values could be connected to these megatrends to contribute to a better society for the post COVID-19? – Round table and interactive session with participants\nLouis Ferrini and Susanna Albertini (moderators)\, FVA new media research 10 mins\nMonique Calisti\, NGI4ALL\nJim Clarke\, NGI Atlantic\nMirko Ross\, NGI Pointer\nIwa Stefanik\, NGI Explorers 5 mins\nKatja Bego\, NGI Forward 5 mins\nEster Liquori\, GhostWriter.AI \nWrap-up and details of future webinars in the series\nKirsten Virks\, TETRA Project Coordinator 3 mins \n\nDid you miss the webinar?\nSee the recorded session here below and download the presentations:\nThe contribution of NGI in re-design the post COVID-19 society (pdf)\nMentimeter results (pdf)
