SUMMARY:TETRA Webinar: Funding your Open Source project
DESCRIPTION:When: 21 September 2021\nWhere: Online \nThis webinar is dedicated to the sustainability of open source projects. The webinar is divided into two parts – firstly we will discuss various nonprofit business models and secondly take a look at crowdfunding for open source projects. \n\nDr Melanie Rieback will give you insights on why it is important to look into various business models and engage users in order to develop a product that will be successful in the long run. Several nonprofit business models that allow the open source community to financially support themselves in an independent way will be discussed. The webinar will provide you some options outside of the venture capital track and inspiration to start thinking about sustainability for your open source project. \nCrowdfunding can be a reliable source not only for funding\, but also for testing the market demand for your product. In the second part of the webinar Andrew “bunnie” Huang will share his crowdfunding journey. He will talk about why he chose this funding option\, which platform he chose and how he executed the campaign. He will also share some key success factors that supported the funding journey on the crowdfunding platform. \nAs a result of this event\, you will be able to develop long-term funding strategies for your open source project. \nNo prior registration is needed. The link of the event: HTTPS://BBB.TBM.TUDELFT.NL/B/GRE-CN6-FEK-YGH\nSpeakers\n\nDr. Melanie Rieback is CEO/Co-founder of Radically Open Security\, the world’s first not-for-profit computer security company. She is also a former Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the Free University of Amsterdam. SUMMARY:OW2con’21
DESCRIPTION:Leveraging the European Open Source Ecosystem\nOpen-source software in modern corporate information systems is what brings together experts from around the world at OW2con’21. The central theme of OW2con’21 is “Leveraging the European Open Source Ecosystem.” \nThe world needs a vibrant European open source ecosystem. As open-source software has become mainstream how do we ensure it creates long-term value for all and enables good jobs and digital sovereignty across societies? The growth and sustainability of the ecosystem depend on the success of its stakeholders: open-source projects and developers\, open-source foundations\, systems integrators\, software vendors\, and users. We all play a part through our technology choices\, our best practices\, our engagement with other players. We each have a vested interest in the well-being of other stakeholders. OW2con’21 will address the many challenges of ensuring a sustainable European open source ecosystem.

SUMMARY:EU Open Source Policy Summit 2021
DESCRIPTION:OpenForum Europe and the Linux Foundation are excited to invite you to the EU Open Source Policy Summit 2021\nIt’s becoming increasingly clear that ‘Open’ must play a central role as Europe addresses its pressing digital policy challenges. Open source and open technologies drive digital transformation in practice\, and policies that support this process pave the way for European economic development and citizen empowerment. The EU Open Source Policy Summit will bring this squarely into the policy discussion. \nWith this Policy Summit\, OpenForum Europe aims to facilitate an engaged and informed dialogue between a large array of stakeholders\, who work at the intersection of politics and technology. Speakers and panelists will address the role of ‘Open’ in the green transition\, the recovery packages\, digital sovereignty and the EU’s competitiveness\, as well as the sometimes polarized views of Digital Sovereignty. \nIn the end\, we challenge ourselves to answer: how do we create a winning open source culture in Europe? \nWe look forward to enhancing the political debate at this critical juncture\, as discussions of Openness move into a deeper understanding of the strategic role Open Source will play in Europe’s digital future.

SUMMARY:WOSH 2019
DESCRIPTION:Week of Open Source Hardware 2019\nThe Week of Open Source Hardware (WOSH) will take place in Zurich\, Switzerland\, from June 11 to June 14\, 2019. During the first two days the RISC-V workshop takes places and focuses on the free and open RISC-V instruction set architecture. The FOSSi Foundation and the Pulp team\, with the support of H2020 projects Eurolab4HPC and OPRECOMP are organizing a FREE complementary program that covers topics around free and open source silicon\, its licensing and open source EDA tools. While those events are organizationally decoupled from the RISC-V workshop\, it gives free and open source silicon enthusiasts the chance to gather and discuss throughout an entire week. \nWOSH will take place at the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering in the center campus of ETH Zurich. The address is Gloriastrasse 35. Please find directions on how to get to the venue here. You can also find some help on getting around in Zürich. \nVideos from WOSH are now available on our YouTube channel in the Week of Open Source Hardware playlist. \n\nInformation about the event can be found here: https://fossi-foundation.org/wosh/ \nVideos are available here: https://www.video.ethz.ch/events/2019/risc-v.html\nand here: https://fossi-foundation.org/wosh/ \nPictures can be found here: https://pulp-platform.org/img/wosh/2019-06-11/ \n
