SUMMARY:Fed4FIRE+ @ IoT Week 2022
DESCRIPTION:IoT Week is a one-of-a-kind 4 day conference where leaders from the worlds of business\, tech and science shed light on the future of technology and its impact on business and life. This year’s edition will take place in Dublin\, from 20th to 23rd June 2022. \nIn the context of IoT Week 2022\, Fed4FIRE+ will contribute to the debate by bringing attention to the added value of federated research infrastructures when it comes to the validation of next-generation IoT and Internet technologies. \n“EXPERIMENTING NEXT GENERATION INTERNET TECHNOLOGIES: SUCCESS STORIES\, CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES” WORKSHOP | 23RD JUNE 2022\nOur daily life has become more and more digital\, from the way we commute to work to how we watch a movie in the evening: a “digital society” that uses a wide range of Next Generation Internet applications. Ensuring safe and trustworthy technologies is a real challenge for research\, which must deal with rapidly evolving requirements and heterogeneous features in a highly competitive environment. \nTo tackle this challenge\, testbeds’ federations play a crucial role in supporting experimenters and researchers\, granting interoperable top-quality testing facilities to validate innovative solutions in a real-world environment. On the 23rd of June\, the “Experimenting Next Generation Internet Technologies: success stories\, challenges and opportunities” workshop will bring together experts from the research community and testbeds’ owners to share their success stories and discuss the challenges of supporting experimentation in federated research infrastructure in Europe and beyond. \nDRAFT AGENDA\n1:45 pm | Welcome and introduction \n\nPeter Van Daele\, imec – Ghent University\, IDLab\n\n1:55 pm | Setting the scene \n\nSerge Fdida\, Sorbonne University\n\n2:05  pm | Panel session: Hands-on experiences of federated testbeds \n\nBrecht Vermeulen\, imec – Ghent University\, IDLab\nCédric Crettaz\, Mandat International – IoT Lab testbed\nDiarmuid Collins\, CONNECT in Trinity College Dublin – IRIS testbed\nCarolina Fortuna/Grega Morano\, Jožef Stefan Institute – Log-a TEC testbed\n\n3:05 pm | Wrap-up and conclusion  \n\nPeter Van Daele\, imec – Ghent University\, IDLab\n\n  \nDon’t miss the event\, register now on the IoT Week website.

SUMMARY:IoT Week 2021
DESCRIPTION:NEXT-GENERATION IOT FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE\nThe rising awareness of climate change has caused the popularization of sustainability and the realization that we need to do things not only differently\, but better.\nAs focus shifts to finding solutions to climate issues\, technological advancements and innovation present a promising way forward. \nThe Internet of Things\, for example\, which Boston Consulting Group estimates will boom into an $267 billion dollar industry by 2021\, promises to\nfacilitate great leaps in our efforts to transform our places and spaces\, from homes and offices to entire cities\, into sustainable environments. \nIf IoT technologies build on not only established technology\, but also new capabilities in the backend\, such as artificial intelligence\, deep semantic\ninteroperability and novel contractual arrangements like Blockchains\, they will undoubtedly bring fundamental change to all sectors of activity\, improving the way we live and work. \nIn other words\, IoT is likely to be an essential element of the Next Generation Internet\, setting the groundwork for systems and devices of the future.

SUMMARY:NGI at IoTweek 2019
DESCRIPTION:Next Generation Internet: Research Priorities and Funding Opportunities\nThe Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative from the European Commission aims at developing key building blocks of the internet of tomorrow and shape its development towards an internet of humans that responds to our fundamental needs\, including trust\, security\, openness and inclusion\, and in general reflects the values and norms we enjoy in our society. At the core of the initiative stands a research and innovation programme dedicated to directly support internet innovators\, from individual researchers\, to developers and start-ups. \nThis session will provide an overview of the NGI initiative\, will present the research and innovation areas where it will focus in the coming years\, will introduce the upcoming calls for internet innovators in the areas of ‘privacy enhancing technologies’\, ‘search and discovery’ and ‘decentralised data governance’\, and will explain how it links to the IoT community. \nNGI workshop will take place on 18 June at 11:30 – 12:30 in Musikhuset Aarhus – Falken 226.\nIt will be held by Jorge Gasós from European Commission and speakers will include Monique Calisti from Martel Innovate\, Sanyu Karani from Funding Box and Joost Agterhoek from NLNet.
