SUMMARY:NGI Forward: dialogues on Data & Policy
DESCRIPTION:Salon: Data and Policy\nDo register early as we have limited seating in the (online) workshops.\nhttps://app.livestorm.co/made-group/dialogues-on-data-and-policy-the-40-the-identity-and-the-privacy-issue \nExecutive Vice-President for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age\, Margrethe Vestager\, said: “You don’t have to share all data. But if you do and data is sensitive you should be able to do in a manner where data can be trusted and protected. We want to give business and citizens the tools to stay in control of data. And to build trust that data is handled in line with European values and fundamental rights.” \nIt is clear that there is an urgency for an alternative European model to data handling practice of major tech platforms\, and pave the way for sectoral European data spaces to benefit society\, citizens and companies. \nWE WANT YOUR INPUT AND IDEAS: Go tell.edgeryders.eu \nWe invite experts to give their recommendations for NGI. Two EU funded H2020 projects in this domain join this event NGI FORWARD and DAPSI. SUMMARY:STOA Roundtable on Digital Sovereign Identity
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place by video conference and can be followed by webstream \nIn the digital age\, citizens need to manage a range of online identities that are linked\, in different ways\, to their offline identity. In managing these identities and entering into agreements\, citizens navigate a complex legal and technical infrastructure. As digital identities become increasingly important\, it is worth considering how this infrastructure can be made more trustworthy\, empowering users while increasing the availability of data and ensuring citizens’ safety and privacy. This roundtable discussion will examine novel technologies and cutting-edge ideas about how to build such a trust infrastructure\, including public policies\, legal frameworks\, business models and technical standards. \nThis roundtable is organised and hosted by the Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA) at the European Parliament in cooperation with ELONTech and the IoT Council in the context of the work on identity of the Strategy Team of Next Generation Internet\, a European Commission initiative to reimagine and reengineer the internet for the third millennium and beyond. \nProgramme \n15:00-15:05: Introductory remarks \n\nEva KAILI\, MEP\, Chair of the Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA)\n\n15:05-15:45: Experts’ presentations and Q&A \n\nRemy KNECHT\, COO of ITSME.be\nDaniel DU SEUIL\, Convenor European Self Sovereign Identity Framework (EBSI)\nLoretta ANANIA\, Scientific Officer at DG Connect\, European Commission\nThibaut VERBIEST\, Head of Regulatory Affairs Europe & Africa at Diginex\, ELONTech Advisor\nPetros KAVASSALIS\, Associate Professor at University of the Aegean\, ELONTech Advisor\n\n15:45-16:25: Discussion \n16:25-16:30: Closing remarks \n\nIvars IJABS\, MEP\, 2nd Vice-Chair of the Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA)\n\nFollow the webstreaming here.\n© Shutterstock

SUMMARY:Digital Identity Virtual Coffee Break with NGI Ambassador Alex Puig
DESCRIPTION:Do you have everything you need\, to prove that you are you?\n\n\n\n\nDigital ID is well and truly established as one of the most significant technology trends on the planet. Join the webinar and hear more!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\nWhen: Thursday\, 23rd of January 2020 at 13:00 – 13:45 (CET)\nWhere: Online – Link to be sent.\nNB: There is a limit of 150 attendees \nAgenda\n13:00 – 13:10 Introducing the speaker\n13:10 – 13:20 Introduction on Digital Identity\n13:20 – 13:40 Having a conversation with Alex – Have your questions prepared!\n13:40 – 14:45 Conclusions \nAbout the topic\nAnyone who has ever created an online profile\, anywhere\, has established a digital identity. Facebook owns our online social profile\, retailers own our shopping patterns\, credit agencies hold our creditworthiness\, Google knows what we have been curious about since the dawn of the internet and your bank owns your payment history. All of us have traces of our digital identities scattered all over the world wide web. As a result\, we are all analyzed in detail to predict our future behavior and monetize our digital identities. \nDecentralized identity is how people control when\, where and with whom they share their personal data. In the physical world\, we take this sharing for granted\, yet in the digital world\, a stable\, smart way to do this has long been lacking. A digital identity is an online or networked identity adopted or claimed in cyberspace by an individual\, organization or electronic device. These users may also project more than one digital identity through multiple communities. In terms of digital identity management\, key areas of concern are security and privacy. \nAbout the speaker\nAlex Puig is a CTO @ CaelumLabs and Co-chair on Digital Identity @ INATBA (International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications) and an ambassador of the NGI community. \nAlex is a software developer with extensive experience in Blockchain and self-sovereign identity. He has always been involved in R+D projects and the tech entrepreneur scene leading different startups and starting one of the first Blockchain congresses\, the Digital Currency Summit\, with more than 10+ editions. He believes we need to rethink the architecture of the Internet and build a new one\, with a strong self-sovereign identity\, privacy by design\, and security for all. \nPrepare some questions and join the conversation with him!
