SUMMARY:NGI Germany @ Bitkom Roundtable 2018
DESCRIPTION:After a series of conferences and round tables about „Future Internet“\, next generation networks\, broadband and 5G in the last five years the Bitkom Akademie and deutsche ict + medienakademie want to analyse and discuss the development of next generation internet (NGI) in an executive roundtable on 24th January 2018. Together with experts from relevant suppliers such as CISCO\, Ericsson\, Huawei and Nokia as well as users of bandwidth like German television ZDF and Swiss OTT-Company Zattoo we will especially discuss future perspectives and opportunities for a better\, democratic and value-oriented human-centric internet\, particularly by highlighting the importance of the collaboration of society and technology. \nDuring the last ten years many revolutions regarding network structures have been announced. More and more solutions are realised through software instead of hardware and network functions are made automatic. Examples are cloud solutions\, firewalls\, routing\, load balancing\, software-defined networks and network functions virtualisation. \nIn contrast to earlier projects regarding future internet (e.g. clean slate) there will still be the need of tremendous modifications of the existing network structures. Also different perspectives and solutions like edge computing\, the IoT\, the 5G eco system need to be included. In addition\, values like openness\, cooperation across borders\, decentralisation\, inclusiveness\, transparency and protection of privacy need to be taken into account. In cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS and the Broadband Association BREKO the executive roundtable will be followed by a NGI workshop the next day 25th January 2018 at Fraunhofer FOKUS. \nMore info here: http://www.medienakademie-koeln.de/termine/einzelansicht/next-generation-internet-welche-perspektiven-hat-das-netz.html \n  \nAgenda\n\n\n\n\nModeration: Ekkehart Gerlach\, Geschäftsführer\, deutsche medienakademie\, Köln\n\n\n12.30 Uhr\nBegrüßung\n\n\n12.45 Uhr\nEinführung\nMarkus Laqua\, Partner\, BearingPoint GmbH\, Düsseldorf\n\n\n13.00 Uhr\nTechnologische Ansätze – Impuls-Statements und Diskussion \n\nNetzwerk-Architekturen\, SDN und NFV – neue Steuerung\, neue Optimierung?\nProf. Andreas Bereczky\, Produktionsdirektor\, ZDF – Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen\nAlles OTT?\nStefan Lietsch\, CTO/CPO\, Zattoo Europa AG\, Zürich\nNGI – Neue Geschäftsmodelle\nDr. Norbert Niebert\, Manager Technology & Innovation Ericsson GmbH\, Herzogenrath\n\n\n\n\n16.45 Uhr\nCoffee & Cake\n\n\n17.00 Uhr\nPerspektiven \n\nZukünftige Netze anderswo: Südkorea\, Japan und den USA\nDr. Michael Lemke\, Senior Technology Expert\, HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES Deutschland GmbH\, Düsseldorf\nNGI – Next Generation Internet – a key priority for the future?\nNicole Muessigmann\, Programme Officer\, European Commission\, DG Connect\, Next Generation Internet – Unit E3: Next Generation Internet\, Brüssel\nNext-Generation Internet in Deutschland\nProf. Dr. Thomas Magedanz\, Leiter Competence Center – Next Generation Network Infrastructures\, Fraunhofer-Institut für Offene Kommunikationssysteme FOKUS\, Berlin\n\n\n\n\n18.30\nImbiss & Networking\n\n\n\n\nNGI Germany is the national part of the EU movement. SUMMARY:#NGI4EU - IoT\, Privacy\, Trust\, Decentralized\, Discovery\, Search
DESCRIPTION:Towards a future Internet that better responds to the expectations of the citizens!\n„We need the collective vision and engagement of all stakeholders to create the Next Generation Internet. We need to gather and discuss ideas concerning concepts\, technologies and applications coming from the largest possible community. We need to work together to build a future Internet that better responds to the expectations of the citizens.“\nBruno Kessler Lecture by Roberto Viola\, Director-General for Communications Networks\, Content & Technology at the European Commission \n  \nNGI Move\, @NGI4EU brings you Salons and Meetings all over Europe to promote\, exchange and debate the Next Generation Internet movement embodied in the upcoming ICT-24 calls in 2018\, 2019 and beyond. \n\nMeet us in Amsterdam!\nWednesday December 20\, from 10:00pm to 12:00am\nRoundtable with Rob van Kranenburg (NGI Move)and presentations on digital priorities\, privacy\, trust\, search\, discovery and decentralized data management as well as Internet of Things.  *RSVP kranenbu@xs4all.nl* (maxcap 30)  \nVenue:\nThe Things Network\, Rockstart\n10 Rigakade\,\n1013 BC Amsterdam\, Netherlands \n\nWe are yet again at a critical stage for Europe. With the threat of geopolitical instability coming from several dimensions Europe needs to not just assert its presence on the world stage\, but moreover needs to assert its digital sovereignty to further its vision of a single digital market. Europe must become a leader in the co-creation of a Next Generation Internet in a more human centric\, societal and economic beneficial ecosystem of researchers\, high tech start-ups\, industrial and government leaders as well as grassroots communities and individuals. \nTo gather the most impactful group of constituencies in a community\, build a shared vision\, inspire policymaking and prototype possible alternatives\, a series of Salons and Meetups are launched by the NGI Move project\, alongside a set of co-creation workshops and annual NGI awards. The Salons are co-creation and design fiction events aimed at rethinking the Internet assumed functioning (in terms of technology\, governance\, sustainability) and inspiring novel public as well as private services and products relying on it. Participants are invited to discuss around questioning topics and open challenges and build collaboratively possible future scenarios\, defined as ‘moonshot’. A series of Moonshots questions the current status quo and federate stakeholders around the building of viable alternatives. \nWorking close with the European Commission\, NGI Move will distil actionable policy recommendations and stimulate the NGI debate. The vision is to create an NGI that is at the service of people and stimulates business opportunities\, centred on European values and competing globally. Our message is pragmatic cybernetics\, balancing extreme centralisation and extreme decentralization where data stays with citizens. \nThis initiative aims at developing a more human-centric Internet supporting values of openness\, cooperation across borders\, decentralisation\, inclusiveness and protection of privacy; giving the control back to the users in order to increase trust in the Internet. It should provide more transparent services\, more intelligence\, greater involvement and participation\, leading towards an Internet that is more open\, robust and dependable\, more interoperable and more supportive of social innovation. \nFor the ICT-24 call closing in 2018 ‘R&I Actions’ in the following three sub-topics will be called for. Proposals should address only one of these sub-topics. Specifically\, the call is designed for 20/80% spilt\, where 80% is reserved for sub-granting. \n\nPrivacy and trust enhancing technologies: as sensors\, objects\, devices\, AI-based algorithms\, etc.\, are incorporated in our digital environment\, develop robust and easy to use technologies to help users increase trust and achieve greater control when sharing their personal data\, attributes and information.\nDecentralized data governance: leveraging on distributed open hardware and software ecosystems based on blockchains\, distributed ledger technology\, open data and peer-to-peer technologies. Attention should be paid to ethical\, legal and privacy issues\, as well as to the concepts of autonomy\, data sovereignty and ownership\, values and regulations.\nDiscovery and identification technologies: to search and access large heterogeneous data sources\, services\, objects and sensors\, devices\, multi-media content\, etc. and which may include aspects of numbering; providing contextual querying\, personalised information retrieval and increased quality of experience.\n\nFollow @NGI4EU to find out more.

SUMMARY:NGI @ INTERNET GOVERNANCE FORUM (IGF)
DESCRIPTION:The twelfth annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) will be held in Geneva\, Switzerland\, from 18 to 21 December 2017. \nThe NGI initiative will be presented at the Open Forum and will also have an NGI Booth. \nNGI Booth\nThe NGI booth will be a central hub of NGI activities at the IGF’2017. The Open Forum will be promoted and people invited to participate and provide their views and feedback. During the Open Forum we will in turn try to validate the inputs received from participants at our booth/stand.\nNGI activities taking place at the NGI Booth: \n\nDay 1 – Visit of the Commissioner to the NGI booth\nDay 1 – Come and leave your video testimonial at the NGI booth\nDay 1-3 – Provide your views and feedback – Come and join us at the Open NGI Forum.\n\nOpen Forum 72- Next-Generation Internet\nWednesday 20th\, 12.20-13.20 (Room XXIV-E) \nThe Internet is at the core of our socio-economic development. However in the last years we witnessed an increasing level of distrust towards Internet technology. In order to re-establish trust in the users and boost socio-economic growth\, the Internet of the future will have to deliver more to the users. Therefore we have to build it around common and shared values that will put humans at the center of technology development.\nThe European Commission has launched the Next Generation Internet initiative\, to support the development of a human-centric Internet around core European values. This Internet of Values will also contribute in shaping Internet Governance for the next decade and the Open Forum will be the perfect venue to present the initiative on the Internet Governance global scene. \nIn the context of this year IGF\, which will take place in Geneva from the 17th to the 21st of December\, we will host an Open Forum on the Next Generation Internet initiative on the 20th of December. The Open Forum format is interactive in nature with the audience being fully involved: there will be live feedback both on line (via the twitter page\, the Facebook page and via an app that will show real time users’ comments on a tablet screen) and on site. \nDifferent speakers will contribute to the panel.  A very important contribution to the discussion will be provided by the Internet Society. In their annual Global Internet Report\, in fact\, ISOC presented the results of a consultation on the future of the internet\, that they run in parallel with our consultation exercise. The results confirm the trends: 1) the trust of users towards internet technologies is decreasing. 2) concerns about security 3) emerging relevance of IoT and AI. We are considering also to invite two experts in the area of data protection/privacy and distributed architecture. Both of which are topics that are on our current ICT-24 call. We will then present the on-going ICT-24 Call in more details. \nThe NGI Study conducted by NLNet and Gartner will also be presented during the Open Forum\, the panellist will introduce the methodology they used and the topics identified so far for the Work Programme 2019 and the feedback received for the long-term NGI vision. The results will also be presented in order to receive feedback from the audience on the identified topics. \nOnsite moderation\nValentina Scialpi\, European Commission \nSpeakers\nFrédéric Donck\, Internet Society\nClementine Valayer\, Gartner \nOnline moderation\nFulvia Menin\, European Commission \n

SUMMARY:ThingsCon 2017
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nA conference about the future of hardware\, connected devices and Internet of Things\nThingsCon is Europe’s leading conference about the future of hardware\, connected devices and Internet of Things (IoT). Started in Berlin it is growing into a global community of like-minded practitioners around Internet of Things and new hardware. ThingsCon fosters the creation of a human-centric & responsible IoT. To this end it provides practitioners with an open environment for reflection & collaborative action. \nThingsCon Amsterdam started with a one day conference on 7 November 2014\, inspired by the successful format of that year’s first Berlin edition. In 2015 we grew into a conference with about 250 attendees and we felt that we needed to keep growing the Dutch community by also organising smaller focused events; the Salons. In 2016 we organised five Salons and ended the year again with the 3rd edition of the Thingscon Amsterdam conference\, with an international line-up of top notch speakers and about 25 sessions and 50 speakers on different aspects of making a meaningful impact through product and service design of connected products\, with around 330 attendees. \nThingsCon Amsterdam 2016 took place on 1 & 2 December at the Volkshotel in Amsterdam. Find a report on the talks and sessions on the reporting page. \nWe continued to organise the Salons in 2017. DESCRIPTION:An NGI Brussels: on blockchain and public agency\nOn blockchain and public agency.\nDecentralized data governance: leveraging on distributed open hardware and software ecosystems based on blockchains\, distributed ledger technology\, open data and peer-to-peer technologies. Attention should be paid to ethical\, legal and privacy issues\, as well as to the concepts of autonomy\, data sovereignty and ownership\, values and regulations. \nIn Smart Decentralisation: Moving From The Cloud To The Fog\, Dominik Schiener\, Co-Founder — IOTA Foundation\, asks what the evolutionary transition towards smart decentralization means for both the internet of things and our society?: “With the introduction of blockchain\, the internet of things will actually move away from the cloud and towards the fog – something that in turn could give rise to a fully autonomous machine economy\, one that no longer needs the intervention of human managers.” DECODE provides tools that put individuals in control of whether they keep their personal data private or share it for the public good. IDEO\, Microsoft\, IOTA support DIF in building an open source decentralized identity ecosystem for people\, organizations\, apps\, and devices. The goal of the World Identity Network (WIN) is to catalyze progress towards universal ID and robust\, secure\, digital identification systems using 21st century technology solutions\, such as the distributed ledger technology (DLT). uPort is an open source software project to establish a global\, unified\, sovereign identity system for people\, businesses\, organizations\, devices\, and bots. Accenture and Microsoft are creating a blockchain solution to support ID2020\, a global public-private partnership dedicated to solving the challenges of identity faced by more than 1.1 billion people around the world.  What will this competition on the passport lead to? SUMMARY:NGI Move Salon @ 4YFN SMART CITY VILLAGE
DESCRIPTION:NGI Move Salon: FRESH IDEAS ON PRIVACY\, TRUST AND DATALAKE MANAGEMENT | 4YFN LOUNGE @ 4YFN SMART CITY VILLAGE\nNovember the 15th from 12:30 to 13:45\nRoundtable with Rob van Kranenburg (NGI Move) moderating a selected group of invited participants to discuss digital priorities.   \n\nMODERATOR\nRob van Kranenburg (IoT Council\, NGI MOVE) \nSPEAKERS\n\nFrancesca Bria (CTO Barcelona)\nLuis Sanchez (Smart Santander)\nChris Massot (Partner at Claro)\nMarc Pous (thethings_io)\nAntonio Skarmeta (University of Murcia)\nMara Balestrini (IDEAS FOR CHANGE)\n\n\n\nThe main conclusions from the panelists were:\n\nOur vision of technology is still largely influenced by the Computer of the 21st Century paper\, it’s too concerned with the pushing the boundaries of technology without questioning its meaning and role\nEnhance education\, especially with a STEAM (STEM + Arts and creativity) approach\, so that people can learn to value their data and have more agency and awareness when sharing them with third-parties.\nSharing data is crucial to solve world problems as the ones identified by the Sustainable Development Goals\n\n\nThe most inspiring outcome from the panel was the focus on new ideas on privacy. \nThe general feeling is that the GDPR might be a starting-point\, but is looking at privacy in a too static way. In a fully connected environment of potential added value to citizens the new term ‘privacies’ was very well received. Privacies can be described as dynamic levels of accountability\, levels that can be set according to predefined rules and are in control of the end-user. Such concepts are more easily hard-codable and reflect the new given: privacy in a hybrid world is a process distributed over the environment (smart)\, a citizen (grown up in the digital)\, and the objects themselves (dynamic and learning environments themselves). \n\nNGI – Towards a future Internet that better responds to the expectations of the citizens!\nNGI Move\, @NGI4EU brings you Salons and Meetings all over Europe to promote\, exchange and debate the Next Generation Internet movement. \nWhat should the Next Generation Internet look like? | Join the NGI-Movement @NGI4EU

SUMMARY:NGI Move Salon @ SMART CITY PLAZA
DESCRIPTION:NGI Move Salon: TOWARDS A FUTURE INTERNET THAT BETTER RESPONDS TO THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE CITIZENS!\nAGORA STAGE @ SMART CITY PLAZA\nNovember the 15th from 10:00am to 10:45am\nMODERATOR\nMarta Arniani (Founder of Futuribile) \nSPEAKERS\n\nMarc Pous (thethings_io)\nOleguer Sagarra (decode Tech coordinator)\nMara Balestrini (IDEAS FOR CHANGE)\n\n\nMethodology: awareness and education\, narrative drivers for stories\, examples to create immediate action\nThere is an even bigger divide between explaining the current drivers of the Digital Transition to a lay audience than the original Digital Divide (having access and primary skills). Paradoxically the effects of the hybrid nature of the digital are visible and present in everyday life and interactions: fake news\, depression among youngsters\, addiction to social media\, sexting\, and on a more economic scale\, fear of job loss because of robotic automatization\, lack of agency on a political level (fining innovative companies or legally trying to regulate fat protection\, (GDPR). The dominant narrative is fear\, even from the policy perspectives that should try to create enthusiasm for opportunities and possibilities. We lack a possibilist framework. Without it finding good examples to explain the opportunities of a hybrid reality for everyday life and Europe as a 500 million zone is very difficult. NGI.eu should be part of the solution to this. \n  \nPlurality\n\nWhich stakeholders are involved concretely in the concept and implementation of data sovereignty – as data is new oil – what is the process of of granting data ownership?\nWhy are citizens unable to see themselves and their networked identities as central to organizing building-blocks around that level of agency\, but keep outsourcing this level of agency to another state building scenario? Why\, in other words do people take to the streets for abstract notions such as ‘Spain’\, ‘Catalonia’\, ‘England/Great-Britain’\, and why if they refuse to be ruled from ‘outside’ can they not see that they themselves always posit this notion of ‘outside’\, not from a position of the individual – themselves – but from a previously fixed set of rules that they have come to view as such?\n\nWe acknowledge the fact that before we can offer tools of decentralized data management from the point of view of the ‘citizen’\, that citizen first has to emancipate his or herself into the level of primary agency\, or rather citizens have to own the framing of their subjectivity. This is not the case now as we can see clearly played out in the streets of Barcelona\, England and other EU nations. \nHannah Arendt recognizes that plurality can best be experienced at city-level. “The larger the population in any given body politic\, the more likely it will be the social rather than the political that constitutes the public realm” (Arendt 1959\, p. 39). With big numbers\, plurality degenerates into mere and unendorsed interdependence\, while natality and its inherent openness and unpredictability are perceived only under the categories of uncertainty and risk. \nCan the notion of plurality help us understand the current situation in which citizens instead of decentralizing to the level of their subjectivity\, engage with a new level of state agency? \nTerritorial identities seem to be the last binary that remains relatively acceptable as a social agent. Whereas discrimination in terms of gender\, race\, age is firmly addressed and sanctioned\, it remains acceptable still to identify as a person from a particular territory\, a binary as one either is in or out. \n  \nBlockchain\nIn Smart Decentralisation: Moving From The Cloud To The Fog\, Dominik Schiener\, Co-Founder — IOTA Foundation\, asks what the evolutionary transition towards smart decentralisation means for both the internet of things and our society: “With the introduction of blockchain\, the internet of things will actually move away from the cloud and towards the fog – something that in turn could give rise to a fully autonomous machine economy\, one that no longer needs the intervention of human managers.” \nCan individuals build and maintain social networks through which they “negotiate” their identities and subjectivity that brings them together in a different way that bridges the current gap between authorities and end-users? \n  \ndecodeproject.eu\nDECODE is about giving people ownership of the personal data so they can secure their privacy and reclaim their digital sovereignty. It will create new technologies which put them in control of how their data is used so they can decide who has access\, and for what purposes. In doing so\, DECODE will create a new digital economy ecosystem\, enabling in particular the rise of platform cooperatives and data commons. The new technology will be piloted in Amsterdam and Barcelona. A key principle of this will be the pursuit of social value over purely economic return. It will also enable governments to be more responsive to citizen needs. \nDECODE is a response to five key problems created by the use of personal data in the internet economy: \n\nThe way that many internet-oriented companies use personal data erodes people’s privacy and creates threats to their online security\nThe abundance of personal data and lack of control over how it is used and shared exposes people to discriminatory and exclusionary practices\nThe integral role personal data plays in the internet economy means there are barriers to entry for new firms\nPersonal data contributes to network effects which make it possible for companies to become excessively dominant. This is especially problematic in the sharing and collaborative economy.\nPersonal data\, if anonymised\, could have considerable benefits for society\, helping us to live more sustainably and deliver better public services. Without individuals having control over personal data\, these benefits can’t be realised.\n\nDECODE will create a number of practical tools as part of a technical infrastructure. This will include personal data storage options\, the ability to specify in granular detail how data is shared and with whom\, privacy-preserving tools which enable authenticated digital participation without revealing private information\, and a mechanism for anonymised data to be pooled so that it can be used by governments\, researchers\, innovators and not-for-profit organisations.

SUMMARY:GARR CONFERENCE 2017
DESCRIPTION:THE DATA WAY TO SCIENCE\nThe GARR Conference brings together users\, technical operators and managers of the Italian Research and Education Network\, with the aim to share experiences and ideas about the use of the network as a cross-disciplinary and cross-context tool for research\, education and culture. \n\nThis years’ conference theme is the role of data in research. Data are a valuable asset that constitutes more and more the real basis of scientific work. They are in all disciplines\, with common requirements\, peculiarities and emerging needs. \nFrom Big Data to open data\, from data sharing to data storage\, from processing of huge amounts of data to the Internet of Things: these are just a few of the many topics covered over the three days on innovation and collaboration for research. \nDuring the conference\, several aspects of the life of data will be analysed: production\, storage\, management\, dissemination\, reuse\, security and interoperability. The conference will showcase success stories\, good practice and the discussion on common strategies among national and international network. \n\nNGI @ GARR CONFERENCE 2017\nJean-Luc Dorel (European Commission DG CNECT)\, had a presentation in the GARR Conference on Wednesday 15 November\, 2017: Overview of the Next Generation Internet initiative.\nThe presentation video is available here on the GARR event web. \n \n

SUMMARY:IoT BCN Smart City Expo: Blockchain + IoT + Next Generation Internet (NGI)
DESCRIPTION:The next IoT Barcelona meetup (http://iot.barcelona) during the Smart City Expo 2017 in Barcelona. Actually this will be a mix of Blockchain and IoT together with Smart City Expo IoT companies\, all with fresh beers by our kind sponsor Moritz (http://moritz.com) and thethings.iO (https://thethings.io) \n  \n\nNGI Meetup with Marc Pous\, Co-presenters were Josep Sanjuàs about Blockchain\, Ethereum and Bitcoin and how to apply these technologies with the Internet of Things and John Tillema speaking about the hardware development of the Things Network. Rob van Kranenburg talked about the bigger picture – #IoT\, #AI\, #Robotics and the agency of Europe\, and the new funding schemes in ICT-24. \nA discussion that addressed the current political situation in Barcelona in a logical way ensuing from notions of transparency and information flow of the Digital Transition. The audience debated that it is strange that we want analytics and real time data streams in all networks that make up Internet of Things: \n\nBAN\, Body Area Network: Wearables\nLAN\, Local Area Network\, (Smart) Home\nWAN\, Wide Area Network\, (Connected) Car\nVWAN\, Very Wide Area Network\, (Smart) City\n\nbut in the most important of decision making areas: society\, we still allow a 19th century fully analogue model of people discussing in the basis of belief\, particular personal needs\, romantic territorial notions or ideologies tuned to pre-network archetypes. \nThe pragmatic cybernetics advocated by NGI Move was seen as a powerful potential bringer of calm\, serenity and opportunities in the particular Catalunya situation\, and for the EU as a 500 million zone as a whole. \n \n#IoT #AI #Robotics #ICT-24 #NGI4EU \n\nNGI – Towards a future Internet that better responds to the expectations of the citizens!\nNGI Move\, @NGI4EU brings you Salons and Meetings all over Europe to promote\, exchange and debate the Next Generation Internet movement. \nWhat should the Next Generation Internet look like? | Join the NGI-Movement @NGI4EU

SUMMARY:SMARTCITY EXPO 2017
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nMore than ever\, what happens in cities is shaping our world. The future of the world’s urban population will mostly be built in our lifetimes. The challenges we face are immense and only by working together will we be able to tackle them. \nOver the next few decades\, the continuing urbanization and overall growth of the world´s population is projected to add 2.5 billion people to the cities. All regions in the world are expected to urbanize further\, especially in Asia and Africa\, where the fastest growing cities are located. \nThe world is becoming even more interdependent and cities must act together across borders to deal with similar challenges: population growth\, climate change\, traffic congestion and pollution\, lack of adequate and affordable housing\, education and health\, the integration of refugees and migrants into urban life\, among many other pressing issues. \nEmpowerment has been defined as an intentional ongoing process which occurs in communities and organizations\, involves active participation\, critical reflection\, awareness and understanding\, and most difficult but important of all\, the access and control over important decisions and resources\, in a climate of mutual respect and caring. \nIn 2017 Smart City Expo World Congress intends to increase the presence of public and private organizations\, exhibitors and visitors from all over the world\, to keep generating synergies\, sharing knowledge\, provoking discussion\, promoting out of the box thinking and inspiring a call for actions. More than 16.000 professional visitors are expected\, with over 600 exhibitors\, along with high level representatives from more than 650 cities and over 400 experts and thought leaders. \nThe Congress gathers the most relevant experts and leaders of the world´s most innovative cities\, companies\, entrepreneurs\, start-ups\, research centers\, initiatives and solutions\, with strategies for a smarter and more sustainable urban world. At the Exhibition Area\, participants showcase their latest developments\, real solutions and products\, with technologies that are making concrete and lasting positive impacts on the lives of millions of people. \nBe part of this global community\, an ecosystem committed to creating powerful solutions\, the ones that will help to develop a more plural economy\, improve our quality of life and promote a healthier future.

SUMMARY:An NGI Move Salon: What's next for the Internet (of Things)
DESCRIPTION:An NGI Move Salon.\nSalon Nr 1: What’s next for the Internet (of Things)\nWhere is the Internet heading? What are the strengths and the weaknesses of its present form\, and what are the likely/possible/ideal next steps and directions of its development? \nWe are delighted to bring to you Rob van Kranenburg of NGI Move\, who was one of the first people ever to use the term “the Internet of Things”\, and who has recently started to run a series of “NGI Move Salons” around Europe\, aimed at (i) rethinking the functioning and the potentials of the Internet (in terms of technology\, governance\, sustainability)\, and (ii) inspiring novel public\, as well as private services & products relying on the next generation Internet. \nThe event is organized by early-stage hardware and IoT focused startup investor SmartWare.tech\, and will feature a panel discussion among: \n\nRob van Kranenburg of NGI Move (NGI standing for “Next Generation Internet”)\nÁkos Maróy\, CEO at Aero Glass \n\nPéter Langmár\, partner at SmartWare.tech and CEO at Lab.Coop\nModerator: Barnabás Málnay\, partner at SmartWare.tech and business developer at EIT Digital.\n\n\nAbout 20 people joined the meeting. After a general intro on IoT and the speed and scope of the digital transition we focused on the model and topics of ICT 24. General agreement that cascading funds is a good model\, also general ‘worry’ that purely professional process organizations without a vision would be able to occupy the 20% spaces. Thus\, it is important\, it was noted from the Latvian and Berlin side that some granularity and reflection is necessary patched on Funding Box or other type of incubator organizations. \nAlso raised: the perceived optimism around NGI able to not only defensively (GDPR) look at privacy for example but come up with radical new models to look at trust. \nIndividual Meetings make connections to potential consortium members for „ICT-24-2018-2019: Next Generation Internet – An Open Internet Initiative” \n#privacy #trust #decentralized #NGI4EU \n \n\nNGI – Towards a future Internet that better responds to the expectations of the citizens!\nNGI Move\, @NGI4EU brings you Salons and Meetings all over Europe to promote\, exchange and debate the Next Generation Internet movement. \nWhat should the Next Generation Internet look like? | Join the NGI-Movement @NGI4EU \n\n\nSmartWare.tech is a Hungary-based investor looking to partner with exceptionally brilliant\, motivated\, and growth-oriented early-stage hardware and IoT companies\, helping them get through the most critical early stages of their development trajectories. Besides providing them with pre-seed funding in the range of 20-200k EUR\, the Accelerator supports its portfolio companies primarily in (i) building effective MVPs and prototypes\, (ii) jumpstarting customer development\, (iii) designing and sharpening business models\, and (iv) preparing for raising follow-up funding.

SUMMARY:Internet of Opportunity: Will the Internet Benefit All Europeans?
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) and European Committee of the Regions\nAbout Regional Development Dialogues\nThis conference is part of a global series of Internet development conferences organized by the Internet Society with the aim of furthering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that aim at tackling the world’s main development challenges by 2030. Previous Regional Internet Development Dialogues have been held in Asia Pacific\, Latin America & Caribbean and Africa. \nFormat & Audience\nThis event will gather participants from government\, local authorities\, business\, and civil society to discuss the development of the Internet and its relation to economic growth\, digital economy and social inclusion with a focus on European regions and local communities. The event will be divided into four thematic sessions – jobs\, innovation\, remote access and skills. The objective is to highlight success stories from across Europe and to encourage the European regions and communities to make them most out of the Internet opportunity. \nSetting the scene\nThe Internet is transforming Europe’s rich cities. The metropolises benefit from high speed connections and are the site of most start-ups and new tech jobs. But what are the consequences of this transformation? And what will happen to less populated regions and disadvantaged urban fringes? These will be the guiding questions for this day-long event organized by the Internet Society\, CEPS\, and the Committee of the Regions. \nLeading policymakers and industry representatives will be on hand to present research and recommendations\, with CEPS presenting a new paper on “The Internet and Jobs – A Giant Opportunity” analysing the current trends in Europe. We will debate whether the Internet is killing jobs – or whether it could create new long distance positions. Looking at questions of access\, we will consider the progress towards extending fast-speed broadband right across Europe\, and we will present success stories in regional innovation across Europe. \n\nFor more information\, please contact the Internet Society European Regional Bureau at riddeurope@isoc.org.

SUMMARY:BLOCKCHAIN WEBINAR @ OPEN UNIVERSITY
DESCRIPTION:Blockchains as a Component of the Next Generation Internet\nBlockchains are best known as the technological underpinning for the Bitcoin cryptocurrency highlighted for its potential to revolutionise the financial world. For example\, a World Economic Forum survey in 2015 found that those polled believe that there will be a tipping point for the government use of blockchain by 2023  and Santander have predicted savings of up to $20 billion by 2022. \nThe reach of blockchain technology\, however\, will go far beyond the financial sector\, with pilots and deployed systems already emerging in a wide variety of sectors including: logistics\, luxury goods\, the Internet of Things\, energy\, music\, education\, land registry\, social networks\, human resources and insurance. \nIn this webinar\, Prof John Domingue\, from Open University\, will first cover the basic principles and components underlying blockchains\, including the use of cryptographic signatures\, consensus mechanisms and smart contracts and then explore the current and future potential for this technology to impact and shape the Next Generation Internet. \nDownload the Blockchain Webinar slides (pdf). \n\nThe webinar video\n
