DESCRIPTION:NGI Explorers final event – celebrate the recognition of remarkable EU-US collaborations granted in the NGI Explorers\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe NGI Explorer program is coming to an end and the consortium has decided to treat the community of bright minds and exceptional individuals that have made the program so successful to a unique event\, meant to celebrate the amazing results achieved together: the NGI Explorers Oscars. \nEach of the Explorers will be asked to pitch their project in a brief demo session\, to showcase their results and project highlights\, divided by core technology cluster. These projects have been carried out by European researchers and innovators directly working with US interdisciplinary\, tech-driven collaborative groups in the following domains: AI\, Cybersecurity\, Cloud/Edge Computing\, IoT\, 5G; and verticals: health\, smart cities and buildings\, network security and connectivity\, smart transport\, and tourism. \nTo conclude the series of interesting tech and scientific knowledge shared by our NGI Explorers\, the event will follow with a Masterclass “Greening the NGI”\, offered by TETRA project and conducted by Robert Miskuf & Susanna Albertini. Mark your calendars\, this year’s event will take place June 20-22 in Trieste\, Italy and online. \nYOUthDIG2022 – Application is open\nWe are looking for 30 young people from all over Europe (members states at the Council of Europe) to participate in YOUthDIG2022\, a pre-event programme which prepares young people who are interested about topics related to the Internet to become active participants in EuroDIG. \nDuring YOUthDIG\, newcomers learn about Internet Governance\, and discuss and exchange ideas with experienced Internet policy practitioners but also experience peer-to-peer learning and networking. DESCRIPTION:Digital Assembly 2022: A closer look into the digital future\nThe Digital Assembly 2022 is co-organised by the European Commission and the French Presidency. It will focus in particular on issues related to EU sovereignty and autonomy. \nIn an increasingly uncertain world\, Europe is facing profound questions about how it should position itself to secure its values\, address societal challenges effectively\, and ensure prosperity and opportunity for our citizens. Technology has proven it can keep our societies and economies going in the most difficult of circumstances\, such as the COVID-19 pandemic\, whilst holding the promise of major breakthroughs in areas such as personalised health care\, smart energy and mobility and precision agriculture\, which help tackling climate change. However\, increasing reliance on technology has also underscored Europe’s dependencies on other regions for raw materials\, energy\, and crucial components. \n\nEurope produces less than 10% of the world’s semiconductors. It is heavily dependent on third-country suppliers to the point that production in important sectors such as automotive had to be suspended because of shortages. In areas such as cloud\, AI or virtual reality\, Europe is being out-invested and European companies hold low market shares. How can we best build up a thriving ecosystem in Europe for advanced technologies that can help reduce our vulnerabilities?\nIt has been estimated that the ICT sector is emitting about 3% of global CO2 emissions\, and the trends point to an increasing environmental footprint. At the same time\, technology can help reduce emissions by 15-20% in sectors such as energy\, transport or agriculture. How can we maximise the positive effects of ICT and reduce its environmental downsides? What incentives work best?\nWhilst the war Ukraine is bringing great suffering to its population and has changed the world order for many years to come\, it also raises the question as to how the country’s infrastructure can be repaired and rebuilt. How can Europe help Ukraine to unlock its great digital potential?\nThe metaverse is a concept that is mesmerising to many digital experts and is attracting significant private and public funding. What is the metaverse\, and why should it matter? Does Europe need to prepare a strategy to shape the metaverse and play a leading role in its design and operation?
