SUMMARY:STOA Roundtable on Digital Sovereign Identity
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place by video conference and can be followed by webstream \nIn the digital age\, citizens need to manage a range of online identities that are linked\, in different ways\, to their offline identity. In managing these identities and entering into agreements\, citizens navigate a complex legal and technical infrastructure. As digital identities become increasingly important\, it is worth considering how this infrastructure can be made more trustworthy\, empowering users while increasing the availability of data and ensuring citizens’ safety and privacy. This roundtable discussion will examine novel technologies and cutting-edge ideas about how to build such a trust infrastructure\, including public policies\, legal frameworks\, business models and technical standards. \nThis roundtable is organised and hosted by the Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA) at the European Parliament in cooperation with ELONTech and the IoT Council in the context of the work on identity of the Strategy Team of Next Generation Internet\, a European Commission initiative to reimagine and reengineer the internet for the third millennium and beyond. \nProgramme \n15:00-15:05: Introductory remarks \n\nEva KAILI\, MEP\, Chair of the Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA)\n\n15:05-15:45: Experts’ presentations and Q&A \n\nRemy KNECHT\, COO of ITSME.be\nDaniel DU SEUIL\, Convenor European Self Sovereign Identity Framework (EBSI)\nLoretta ANANIA\, Scientific Officer at DG Connect\, European Commission\nThibaut VERBIEST\, Head of Regulatory Affairs Europe & Africa at Diginex\, ELONTech Advisor\nPetros KAVASSALIS\, Associate Professor at University of the Aegean\, ELONTech Advisor\n\n15:45-16:25: Discussion \n16:25-16:30: Closing remarks \n\nIvars IJABS\, MEP\, 2nd Vice-Chair of the Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA)\n\nFollow the webstreaming here.\n© Shutterstock

SUMMARY:IEEE ICC 2020
DESCRIPTION:IEEE ICC 2020 TO GO VIRTUAL\nAs you may be aware\, the World Health Organization officially declared the novel coronavirus COVID-19 a pandemic. This global health crisis is a unique challenge that has impacted many members of the IEEE family. We would like to express our concern and support for all the members of the IEEE community\, our professional team\, our families and all others affected by this outbreak. \nGovernments around the world are now issuing restrictions on travel\, gatherings\, and meetings in an effort to limit and slow the spread of the virus. The health and safety of the IEEE community is our first priority and IEEE is supporting these efforts. \nFollowing the advice and guidelines from healthcare officials and local authorities\, IEEE ICC 2020 will now be held virtually on 7-11 June 2020. \nThe IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) is one of the IEEE Communications Society’s two flagship conferences dedicated to driving innovation in nearly every aspect of communications. Each year\, around 3\,000 researchers submit proposals for paper presentations and program sessions to be held at the annual conference. After extensive peer review\, the best of the proposals are selected for the conference program\, which includes technical papers\, tutorials\, workshops and industry sessions designed specifically to advance technologies\, systems and infrastructure that are continuing to reshape the world and provide all users with access to an unprecedented spectrum of high-speed\, seamless and cost-effective global telecommunications services. \nAt the annual conference\, thousands of participants gather to present research results\, share visions and ideas\, obtain updates on latest technologies and expand professional and social networking. These activities are realized through IEEE ICC’s multiple diversified and exciting programs. \nThis 5-day event includes several keynote speeches by distinguished speakers from industry\, academia and government sectors; panels and forums; technical sessions featuring technical papers extensively reviewed by peers; workshops focusing on the latest trends in various technology; tutorials delivered by experts in respective disciplines; exhibits; an awards luncheon; and a relaxing and entertaining banquet.

SUMMARY:Making sense of a COVID-19 world
DESCRIPTION:NGI Forward Webinar – Making sense of a COVID-19 world: applying collective intelligence to big data.\nAs we at NGI Forward watched SARS-CoV-2 cut into our worlds\, we felt the same as everybody else. We feared for loved ones\, and for the long-term freedom and prosperity of our societies. We felt powerless\, and anxious in the face of uncertainty. We still do. \nBut\, at some point along the way\, we realized there was something we could do. We have in our midst a team of data scientists. When the pandemic hit\, Kristof and Michal were analysing trends in the evolution of Internet technology. Theirs is a big data method: they do text analysis on large repositories of academic papers\, news articles\, social media. We realized we could use the same method to investigate the virus and its companion illness. It would be like redirecting our searchlight onto a new target. \nSo we did that. In the space of only a few weeks\, Kristof and Michal came back with results\, neatly arranged in an interactive website. And that’s where we need your help. \nIn this webinar\, we will get together and question the data. Let’s look at them\, turn them around in our heads\, interrogate each other on their possible meaning. Let’s formulate hypotheses\, and see if we can think of ways to test them. Kristof and Michal can transform them into queries and visualization in real-time\, or close enough. In other words\, let’s augment big data analysis with collective intelligence methods. It will be a way for us to learn more about both COVID-19 and this particular big data methodology.

SUMMARY:TETRA WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:Where to get money – investors\, grants or crowdfunding?\nWhen you have a great idea\, funding is nearly always the sticking point. How can you raise money to get it started? If you have a tech-based idea\, you may have an easier time attracting attention from venture capitalists or angel investors\, but as more and more startups work that angle\, finding the right investor is harder than ever. So how could you get your idea off the ground? In our webinar\, we will talk about 3 different ways to fund your idea – be it attracting an angel investor\, crowdfunging or grants. \nFirst\, who exactly is an angel and where do they invest? When should your startup choose an investor? An experienced angel investor and a founder of a VC Fund\, Riivo Anton\, who has invested in many different early-stage companies will give you an introduction to angel investing and answer your most burning questions about this form of funding.Second\, if you have a groundbreaking idea and you’re ready to campaign for it\, crowdfunding is the way to go – a number of startups have found their first success thanks to platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo that helped them raise investments as well as visibility and reach. Alternative financing for businesses across Europe has increased considerably in recent years\, becoming an important source of finance\, but it can still be slightly confusing which one to choose and whether it s really for you. \nWe will introduce some tools available to help you navigate in this world. \nThird\, grants offer the opportunity for your organisation to bring in new funding that does not need to be paid back! It is important to remember\, however\, that grants are competitive. A lot of time and preparation are required to find grant opportunities\, plan a project\, and then develop a proposal. An expert in grants from Civitta will introduce various European grants available and answer all of your questions on how to get one. \nFor more info: https://business.ngi.eu/news-events/webinars/webinar-3-where-to-get-money-investors-grants-or-crowdfunding-/ \nRegistration at: https://meetinglab.zoho.eu/meeting/register?sessionId=1294616560 \nAgenda\nWelcome and introduction to TETRA project\nKirsten Virks\, TETRA Project Coordinator 5 mins \nWho are angel investors and where to find them?\nRiivo Anton\, United Angels VC 10 mins \nCrowdfunding and other alternative financing options. SUMMARY:AI for Good - webinar series
DESCRIPTION:The AI for Good Webinar Series is a free\, live series of talks\, interviews and panels\, featuring inter-disciplinary experts whose ideas\, insights and solutions can help humanity leverage AI for good. The series will draw upon expertise from the AI for Good Global Summit community to share the latest developments in AI\, unique insights and promising use cases on global challenges from health to the environment and reducing inequalities. \n\nCOVID-19: Combining crowdsourcing and AI to tackle the pandemic\n14:00 – 15:30 Geneva | 08:00 – 09:30 New York | 05:00 – 06:30 San Francisco | 20:00 – 21:30 Beijing | 15:00 – 16:30 Moscow | 17:30 – 19:00 New Delhi | 19:00 – 20:30 Jakarta \nCrowdsourcing is often associated with the darker side of AI: clickworkers in sweatshops filtering out illegal content from social media sites\, to help train bots that will ultimately make the clickworkers redundant. In this session\, we look at some of the more positive synergies between AI and crowdsourcing\, through the lens of the coronavirus pandemic. \nOnline crowdsourced events such as the EUvsVirus hackathon held in April with over 20\,000 participants have proliferated under the current global lockdown\, bringing with them new lessons for how AI can contribute to better organizing large scale collaborations between humans. At the scale of citizen-driven science for Covid\, projects have emerged that combine AI and crowdsourcing to extract vital information from the flood of literature being produced or train algorithms that can analyse social media for important trends. As the EC launches a new initiative for grassroots crowdsourcing to tackle the SDGs\, this panel will discuss how AI can help crowds achieve more\, how crowds can help improve AI\, and where this marriage of people and machines might have the most impact on Covid-related research and innovation. \n\nCrowdsourcing – large numbers of humans performing micro-tasks – is often associated with the darker side of AI: clickworkers in sweatshops filtering out images from social media sites\, to help train bots that will ultimately make the clickworkers redundant. SUMMARY:TETRA WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:The contribution of NGI in re-design the post COVID-19 society\nWhat has been the contribution of the internet during the world lockdown?  What worked and what didn’t work? What are the emerging needs of the post COVID-19 society? How those needs can be addressed while respecting the fundamental values of privacy\, participation and diversity? What can be the contribution of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative for innovative human internet services? \nThis webinar will promote an interactive reflection to bridge the NGI mission with the rapid evolving needs of the post COVID-19 society. Together with the NGI community we will identify the emerging opportunities for NGI visionary start-ups\, researchers and developers. \nThe Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative aims at developing a more human-centric Internet supporting the values of openness\, decentralisation\, inclusiveness\, and protection of privacy while also giving the control back to the end-users\, in particular of their data\, in order to increase trust in the Internet. This requires more transparent services\, more intelligence\, greater involvement and participation\, leading towards an Internet that is more open\, robust\, more interoperable and more supportive of social innovation. In doing so\, NGI engages Internet’s best innovators in addressing tech opportunities as well as validate and test relevant minimum viable products and services in real market conditions. \nFor more info: https://business.ngi.eu/news-events/webinars/webinar-2-the-contribution-of-ngi-in-re-design-the-post-covid-19-society/ \nParticipate at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82514949705?pwd=bmRjNjZsdTVPUld5OWNsRjF6bWIwZz09\nPassword: 272831 \nAgenda\nWelcome and introduction to TETRA project – presentation\nKirsten Virks\, TETRA Project Coordinator 5 mins \nLet’s know each other – Interactive session\nLouis Ferrini and Susanna Albertini (moderators)\, FVA new media research 2 mins \nVideo 3 mins \nOverview of the webinar concept and expected outcomes\nLouis Ferrini and Susanna Albertini (moderators)\, FVA new media research 2 mins \nLet’s know each other – Interactive session with participants\nLouis Ferrini and Susanna Albertini (moderators)\, FVA new media research 2 mins \nWhat are the Next Generation Internet (NGI) values? – Presentation and interactive session with participants\nSusanna Albertini\, FVA new media research 5 mins \nWhat are the megatrends emerged in the last 2 months that will impact on the future internet? –Presentations and interactive session with participants\nLouis Ferrini\, FVA new media research 5 mins\nMonique Calisti\, NGI4ALL 5 mins\nJim Clarke\, NGI Atlantic 5 mins\nMirko Ross\, NGI Pointer 5 mins\nIwa Stefanik\, NGI Explorers 5 mins\nKatja Bego\, NGI Forward 5 mins\nEster Liquori\, GhostWriter.AI 5 mins\n \nHow Next generation internet values could be connected to these megatrends to contribute to a better society for the post COVID-19? – Round table and interactive session with participants\nLouis Ferrini and Susanna Albertini (moderators)\, FVA new media research 10 mins\nMonique Calisti\, NGI4ALL\nJim Clarke\, NGI Atlantic\nMirko Ross\, NGI Pointer\nIwa Stefanik\, NGI Explorers 5 mins\nKatja Bego\, NGI Forward 5 mins\nEster Liquori\, GhostWriter.AI \nWrap-up and details of future webinars in the series\nKirsten Virks\, TETRA Project Coordinator 3 mins \n\nDid you miss the webinar?\nSee the recorded session here below and download the presentations:\nThe contribution of NGI in re-design the post COVID-19 society (pdf)\nMentimeter results (pdf)

SUMMARY:Better marketing with savvy data with Ester Liquori
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence. Was your first association Terminator or Wall-E?\nAI can be both scary and beautiful. Discover all the good sides of AI usage in marketing with the NGI community ambassador\, Ester Liquori. \nMarketing is a constant part of our lives as consumers. All the purchases we make are proof of it. And let’s also think about all the searches we do online before actually buying the product. All this information is somehow tracked and contributes to creating our digital identity. \nThe collected data can be an advantage\, not just a danger. If treated correctly it can improve the shopping experience and create value for businesses and consumers. The massive analysis of data by automated systems has made us more exposed\, but also\, if desired\, more protected. And there comes the Artificial Intelligence marketing that allows marketers to crunch huge amounts of marketing data analytics from social media\, emails\, and the Web in a relatively faster time. Moreover\, the insights they get in a shorter time frame will help marketers boost campaigns performance. \nAnother reason why AI in marketing campaigns is important is that around 76 percent of customers expect companies to understand their needs and expectations. So\, AIM will help content marketers understand who exactly their target audience is\, thereby creating a personal experience for customers/users. \nTune in to our webinar and find out more about the several ways of AI usage in marketing. \nAgenda\n13:00 – 13:10 Introducing the speaker\n13:10 – 13:20 Introduction on savvy data and artificial intelligence in the marketing field\n13:20 – 13:40 Having a conversation with Ester – Have your questions prepared!\n13:40 – 13:45 Conclusions \nAbout the speaker\nEster has a background in marketing and communication with almost 20 years of business experience. She started her career in marketing and sales for B2B\, helping to create and maintain relationships with other companies in many countries. Ester is the Founder and CEO @Ghostwriter.AI\, a tech company focused on AI solutions for marketing activities. She is an ambassador of the NGI community. Her areas of expertise include AI Marketing tools\, digital marketing\, and digital entrepreneurship. She is also a mentor at Techstars program in Turin\, where she lives\, a TedX speaker\, and part of the top 15 digital Italian women 2018\, according to Digitalic Magazine. Prepare some questions and join the conversation with Ester! \nNB: There is a limit of 150 attendees.

SUMMARY:eSSIF-Lab webinar
DESCRIPTION:eSSIF-Lab: creating & funding an interoperable SSI infrastructure in Europe\nAttend this webinar to learn about the eSSIF-Lab (EU H2020) project with Oskar van Deventer and Rieks Joosten from TNO in the Netherlands. \nWHY: the eSSIF-Lab vision\, objectives\, and intended benefits;\nWHAT: its (initial) functional architecture/components;\nHOW: ways in which you may contribute (and possibly get funded for that). \n \neSSIF-Lab is an EU H2020 project whose purpose is to fundamentally improve real-life transactions via the Internet\, by focusing on next-generation mental models for such next generation transactions\, and using SSI technologies and implementations to realize them. \nToday\, conducting an online business transaction consist of an individual that fills in an online form\, which is subsequently processed (data is validated\, and a commitment decision is made). Filling in and validating forms can be quite tedious\, frustrating\, time consuming and costly. Digitally inexperienced people are known to give up on requesting (social) benefits they are entitled to\, enlarging the digital divide. But even people with an academic background and years of IT experience find this difficult. \nIn the SSI-enabled world as eSSIF-Lab sees it\, an SSI IT infrastructure can help to find\, provide and validate the needed data electronically. This makes filling and processing forms much easier (people no longer have to understand forms\, upload pdfs\, etc.)\, much faster (people no longer have to go places to get paperwork) much cheaper (saving tens of billions of euro’s – or even more – on verification/validation costs and IT-links). \nThe current wealth of SSI-related products\, technologies and standards is insufficient for realizing this vision\, because it generally lacks interoperability and scalability\, and does not address the process- and business levels. \neSSIF-Lab calls for a scalable and interoperable technological infrastructure that is very easy to use by and integrate with (the IT\, the processes and the business/policies of) arbitrary organizations and individuals to request\, obtain\, store and issue data objects whose meaning (semantics)\, origin (provenance) and integrity can be proved (verified) – which is basically what SSI is all about. \nThe main task of the eSSIF-Lab consortium is to coordinate between and fund projects of SME’s/startups (from EU/EEA countries) that contribute to the realization of this vision\, in terms of technology and/or associated business propositions\, and that will work together so as to benefit from each other’s contributions. \nRegister on this link to join the webinar on the 31st of March 8 am MST / 10 am EST / 3 pm CET.
