SUMMARY:NGI Forum 2017
DESCRIPTION:WHAT ABOUT THE NEXT GENERATION INTERNET FORUM?\nThe Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative\, launched by the European Commission in autumn 2016\, aims to shape the future internet as an interoperable platform ecosystem that embodies the values that Europe holds dear: openness\, inclusivity\, transparency\, privacy\, cooperation\, and protection of data. The NGI should ensure that the increased connectivity and the progressive adoption of advanced concepts and methodologies (spanning across several domains such as artificial intelligence\, Internet of Things\, interactive technologies\, etc.) drive this technology revolution\, while contributing to making the future internet more human-centric. \nThis ambitious vision requires the involvement of the best Internet researchers and innovators to address technological opportunities arising from cross-links and advances in various research fields ranging from network infrastructures to platforms\, from application domains to social innovation. \nThe Next Generation Internet Forum aims to gather together prominent actors that through their work and active engagement in various R&D areas are indeed paving the way to design\, build and refine the Internet of tomorrow. The NGI Forum is an opportunity to share knowledge with leading experts from across a variety of disciplines\, including privacy and trust technologies\, decentralised data governance\, discovery and identification\, edge intelligence\, etc. \nWhile attending\, you can contribute to the dialogue on the best way to meet the ambitious goals\, and contribute to mapping the NGI ecosystem. The event will be structured using a mixture of specialist talks\, open discussions and interactive working groups\, with an emphasis will be on stimulating discussion and the free exchange of ideas between members of the research community\, SMEs & startups\, industry\, policy makers\, and civil society. \nThe NGI Forum is organised by HUB4NGI.\nRegistration is now open! SUMMARY:THE DIN FORUM
DESCRIPTION:Exploring NGI priorities and innovation approaches for a more human Internet\nNOTE: All presentations and the Forum report are available online within the agenda below!  \nDigital Innovation Networks are multi-disciplinary and multi-sector networks of people\, technologies and enterprises aiming to advance Internet technology and innovation processes to address key socio-economic challenges and opportunities. \nA major challenge for the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative is to understand how progressive digitisation and the evolution of the Internet affect society – what existing and future opportunities there are to be exploited\, and what threats need to be defended against. The EC has already identified some concerns regarding the current situation of the Internet\, e.g. power is concentrated in a few large corporate organisations; citizens cannot control their own personal data in the Internet; and restrictions on Internet access to some groups of citizens because of geographical\, economic or cultural reasons (European Commission Futurium\, Next Generation Internet). These are valuable starting points\, but to be sure that the NGI initiative is and continues to be effective\, these concerns need to be explored alongside further emerging challenges and opportunities. \nExperience has shown that the Internet evolves through widely adopted experimentation approaches that engage active users and communities rather than through purely technological advances invented in closed laboratories. The NGI initiative needs to understand how progressive digitisation and the evolution of the Internet influences these experimentation approaches as well as Digital Innovation Networks\, how they all can combine to shape the process of innovation itself\, and how successful products and services can emerge as a result. \nThe Digital Innovation Networks Forum 2017 aimed to create a strongly connected pan-European ecosystem that collectively understands what is needed to build digital innovation networks for the NGI\, and how they can operate to address the major challenges for society as a result of progressive digitisation and the evolution of the Internet. \nThis was achieved by gathering leading Internet Researchers and Innovators to share their NGI vision\, opportunities and concerns through presentations\, debates and interactive round tables. Technical\, socio-economic and innovation topics were covered leading to identification of the research challenges ahead and recommendations for digital innovation network structure and policies. \nThe Digital Innovation Networks Forum 2017 was part of wider consultation programmes from the FIRE STUDY and HUB4NGI support actions\, whose results will inform the EC’s NGI initiative.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_separator][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]All presentations are available online within the agenda below – indicated “Presentation”. But how does digitisation and connectivity influence networks of innovation? How do such networks shape the way knowledge is created\, who creates it and where as well as how it is shared? How will new products and services emerge as a consequence? \nThis report addresses these questions through the concept of Digital Innovation Networks\, defined as multi-disciplinary and multi-sector networks of people\, technologies and organisations aiming to advance Internet technology and innovation processes to address key socio-economic challenges and opportunities. SUMMARY:NGI BOF AT TNC17
DESCRIPTION:NGI BoF at TNC17: From FIRE to the Next Generation Internet Experimentation\nIn current times\, where most of world economies are driven by innovation and where changes in technology and culture in societies are happening rapidly\, the European Commission through several initiatives and organizational structures plays a relevant role by promoting experimental facilities addressing the challenges for bringing revenue to the experimentation facilities and for activating business markets in Europe and world-wide. Since its introduction in the FP7 programme\, the Future Internet Research & Experimentation (FIRE) initiative continues being a critical pillar of the Net Futures within the Horizon 2020. At the heart of the overall initiative there are projects establishing hubs for technology innovation in key areas\, e.g. advanced networking\, IoT\, data\, cloud infrastructures\, and their use within a wide range of diverse business and application domains\, e.g. smart city\, healthcare\, marine\, land and air applications. \nThe NGI BoF at TNC17 provides an insight into the transition process from former FIRE initiative to NGI\, seen as the evolution of FIRE towards the achievement of the Horizon 2020 vision and beyond into the next Framework Programme spanning across 2020-2025. The session is addressed at infrastructure players from the NREN community to stimulate a discussion how transition from FIRE to NGI creates new opportunities and challenges for the NRENs in the near future. Moreover\, this session is addressed at researchers from academia and industry\, interested in experimental validation of innovative outcomes of research projects in stable\, close to real\, network environments. \nSession schedule\n\nThe Next Generation Internet initiative (Jean-Luc Dorel\, EC)\, 10 minutes\nFederation of Next Generation Internet experimental testbeds (Brecht Vermeulen\, IMEC)\, 10 minutes\nGEANT Experimental Facilities – lessons learned (Jerry Sobieski\, Nordunet)\, 10 minutes\nExperimental validatation as key-enabler for innovation (Artur Binczewski\, PSNC)\, 10 minutes\nPanel discussion / Q&A moderated by Bartosz Belter (PSNC)\n\nMake sure to be there.\nRegister at: https://eventr.geant.org/events/2660.
