SUMMARY:Digital Assembly 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Digital Assembly is an annual event hosted by the European Commission and the holder of the spring presidency of the Council of the European Union. It is a forum to address important issues of the digital transition. The Digital Assembly of 2023 (DA23) will be hosted by the Swedish presidency at Scandinavian XPO during Q2 2023. \n\n\n\nThe Swedish Presidency seeks to build a conference program that addresses current EU initiatives as well as ongoing debates on the conference theme. Thus\, the conference will provide an opportunity to showcase the status and potential of initiatives within the Digital Decade\, the EU Cyber Security Strategy as well as the Twin transitions. The Swedish Presidency also aims to build upon related conversations previously held within the Troika\, such as the Digital Assembly 2022 conference in Toulouse and the conference EU Secure and Innovative Digital Future held in Prague 2022. However\, given the quickly changing discursive context within which the conference will be situated\, the project management will closely follow the development in related fields and tailor the program accordingly. \n\n\n\nObjective 1: To stimulate the European discourse on the EUs digital transition and cyber security by providing a platform for multistakeholder dialogue. \n\n\n\nThe target group for DA23 is government officials\, regulators\, private sector representatives and the academia. Non-governmental organisations will also be approached to contribute their perspective on the topic at hand. EU Commissioners and the Troika ministers in the European Union responsible for digital issues will be invited\, as well as high-level business and public policy decisionmakers. By bringing together a multitude of stakeholder in a quad helix constellation the project will stimulate debate\, collaboration and innovation on the conference theme.

SUMMARY:Diversity-aware Hybrid human artificial intelligence
DESCRIPTION:The increase in social media and Internet users’ exposure to diversity has not come with new instruments and skills to deal with it\, despite the invariable impact that diversity has on human lives. This workshop — which will take place within the 2nd International Conference on Hybrid Human Artificial Intelligence (HHAI 2023) on June 26-27 — seeks to promote richer and deeper social interactions by enabling the Internet of Us\, a Hybrid Human-Artificial Intelligence online platform\, where human social relations are mediated and empowered by diversity-aware Artificial Intelligence. Read the WeNet manifesto here. \n\n\n\nThe workshop welcomes contributions across disciplines\, in the form of papers connected either to the workshop’s theme and topics\, or to the shared data-analysis task (see the call for contributions). \n\n\n\nMain theme and topics\n\n\n\nThe focus of this workshop is how to improve upon the limitations of existing systems by empowering richer and deeper social interactions through diversity-aware Artificial Intelligence. The vision is that of enabling a Hybrid Human-Artificial Intelligence online platform (‘The Internet of Us’)\, which will be robust to the many forms of diversity and to the fact that most of them will be unexpected and unknown. It is a move from a network of computers\, which in turn may be connected to people\, to a hybrid network of people and AI systems\, where the interactions are mediated and empowered by AI systems. In the same way the Internet connects computers by abstracting over their diversity via the creation of a common communication layer\, the goal of the envisioned platform is to connect people and augment their social interactions\, by creating a common human-level communication layer above their diversity\, towards a better and more inclusive society. \n\n\n\nAny topic relating to the general theme of the workshop is welcome. The following image  is an indicative\, and non-exhaustive breakdown of the workshop and contributions themes: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContributions are expected to be highly interdisciplinary\, with a focus on human involvement and on how to develop meaningful paradigms of AI-enabled human-human interactions\, human-AI interactions\, human-centered AI-AI interactions. A non-exhaustive list of relevant disciplines and subdisciplines is: Agents and Multi-Agent Systems\, Ethics\, HCI\, Knowledge Representation\, Machine Learning\, Ontologies\, Privacy\, Psychology\, Social Computing\, Social Psychology\, Social Sciences. \n\n\n\nThe “Empirical Studies on Hybrid Human-Artificial Intelligence (EHHAI)” session\n\n\n\n A special session will be dedicated to papers describing the results of the empirical analysis of data about human behaviour provided by the workshop organisers. For details see: Visit the call for contributions page for details on how to participate. \n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\nThe programme of the workshop will feature invited talks\, a panel and discussion on the accepted submitted research papers. The complete agenda will be available in due time. \n\n\n\nSubmissions\n\n\n\nAll papers must be at most 4 pages (excluding references). All submissions should adhere to the IOS formatting guidelines (https://www.iospress.com/book-article-instructions). Papers should be written in English. \n\n\n\nFor submission\, EasyChair must be used – Please submit here. \n\n\n\nImportant dates\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop papers submission: May 15\, 2023 \n\n\n\nWorkshop papers notification: May 31\, 2023 \n\n\n\nWorkshop dates: 26-27 June 2023\n\n\n\n\nPublication of accepted research\n\n\n\nAll accepted papers will be published in the CEUR workshop proceedings (confirmation pending from HHAI). Extended versions of selected papers will also be invited to a special issue of AI Communications\, The European Journal on AI\, which will revolve around the same theme as the workshop. For more details on the special issue\, please visit the dedicated page. \n\n\n\nOrganising committee\n\n\n\n\nFausto Giunchiglia\, University of Trento\, Italy (fausto.giunchiglia@unitn.it)\n\n\n\nLoizos Michael\, Open University of Cyprus & CYENS Center of Excellence\, Cyprus (loizos@ouc.ac.cy)\n\n\n\nJessica Heesen\, University of Tübingen\, Germany (jessica.heesen@uni-tuebingen.de)\n\n\n\n\nShared data-analysis task and session coordinator: \n\n\n\n\nMatteo Busso\, University of Trento (matteo.busso@unitn.it)\n\n\n\n\nProgramme committee: \n\n\n\n\nIvano Bison\, University of Trento\, Italy\n\n\n\nMatteo Busso\, University of Trento\, Italy\n\n\n\nRonald Chenu-Abente\, Aalborg University\, Denmark\n\n\n\nLuca Cernuzzi\, Universidad Catolica De Asuncion\, Paraguay\n\n\n\nAmalia De Götzen\, Aalborg University\, Denmark\n\n\n\nShyam Diwakar\, Amrita University\, India\n\n\n\nKobi Gal\, Ben Gurion University\, Israel\n\n\n\nAmarsanaa Ganbold\, National University of Mongolia\n\n\n\nGeorge Gaskell\, London School of Economics\, UK\n\n\n\nDaniel Gatica-Perez\, Idiap and EPFL\, Switzerland\n\n\n\nXu Hao\, Jilin University\, China\n\n\n\nAlethia Hume\, Universidad Catolica De Asuncion\, Paraguay\n\n\n\nStyliani Kleanthous\, Open University of Cyprus\, Cyprus\n\n\n\nVasileios Markos\, Open University of Cyprus\n\n\n\nLakmal Meegahapola\, Idiap and EPFL\, Switzerland\n\n\n\nDaniele Miorandi\, UHopper\, Italy\n\n\n\nJahna Otterbacher\, Open University of Cyprus\, Cyprus\n\n\n\nNardine Osman\, CSIC-IIIA\, Spain\n\n\n\nSalvador Ruiz Correa\, Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica\, Mexico\n\n\n\nLaura Schelenz\, University of Tübingen\, Germany\n\n\n\nAvi Segal\, Ben Gurion University\, Israel\n\n\n\nCarles Sierra\, CSIC-III\, Spain\n\n\n\nDonglei Song\, Jilin University\, China\n\n\n\nAndrea Aler Tubella\, Umeå University\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nWorkshop participants must register for HHAI’s pre-conference program to be able to attend. Please find information on registration here. \n\n\n\nFor any inquiry on the workshop please contact the organisers.

SUMMARY:Free Software Legal Education Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Online \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Free Software Foundation Europe’s Lina Ceballos and Gabriel Ku Wei Bin will talk about legal topics relating to Free Software. They will explain basic legal concepts such as licenses\, copyright law and other legal topics important for developers and the Free Software community in general. \n\n\n\nThe 40-minute talk will be followed by a 20-minute demonstration of how to make licensing your Free Software projects easier with FSFE’s REUSE initiative. Copyright and licensing is difficult\, especially when reusing software from different projects that are released under various different licenses. REUSE provides a set of recommendations to make declaring licenses easier. After the talk and the demonstration there will be time for questions and answers.

SUMMARY:NGI Panel: Communities\, Digital Rights and the Future of the Internet
DESCRIPTION:Join us on January 25th for a 60-minute online panel on Digital Rights within the NGI project. Discover grassroots communities’ priorities and challenges in shaping the internet’s future. Explore ways to create a more inclusive\, human-centric internet. Community leaders from Access Now\, Missions Publiques\, Algorights\, and Wikimedia will share their visions for a fair future of internet. \n\n\n\nIn parallel to the activities carried out as part of the NGI program\, more and more grassroot communities are being established to pursue and influence the development of the internet of the future. Their vision is often aligned with the NGI principles and points towards a more safe\, sustainable\, fair\, and human-centric digital environment\, with open source and digital common at its core. But many of their requests\, learnings and lines of action may not be evident at the policy level\, and those can be very relevant add-ons to plan and shape the future NGI lines of action by following an inclusive\, grounded\, bottom-up approach. \n\n\n\nThis panel is proposed to learn about the priorities and challenges that these communities are currently facing in an attempt to combine the resources\, tools and solutions made available by the NGI ecosystem\, and the capacities\, energy\, skills and networks of these grassroot communities.  \n\n\n\nThe session aims at embedding a societal and community perspective within the NGI\, thus extending its scope while exploring synergies and potentially collaborating in future initiatives. It will pave the way for co-envisioning and co-designing scenarios of desirable futures enabled by the internet.     \n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n\n11:00 – 11:10 | Welcome and introductionA. SUMMARY:Workshop on Open Source key areas for Digital Autonomy
DESCRIPTION:Three Directorate-Generals from the European Commission (Connect\, DIGIT and GROW) are joining forces to organize a physical event in Brussels to discuss Open Source in four key areas for Digital Autonomy. \n\n\n\nThe study on the impact of Open Source in the EU economy  confirmed the relevance of this subject. The twelve workshops organized in December 2022 by the European Commission have served to pave the way to relevant political initiatives. This time\, the Commission is focusing on the areas that are prone to be the most relevant for Open Source. \n\n\n\nThe first area is Cybersecurity and trustworthiness of ICT systems\, which is of crucial importance in today’s Digital Europe. The second session will elaborate the transformation of the automotive design towards a connected\, carbon-neutral and customer-centric transport with the Software-defined vehicle(SDV). The third panel will analyze how to be successful and manage the challenges in implementing open source projects and solutions in European public services. The final session will develop how to provide and use as much as possible Open Source for developing Data Spaces. \n\n\n\nWorkshops will benefit from the viewpoints of panelists recognized as experts in the workshop topic.

SUMMARY:EU Open Source Policy Summit 2024
DESCRIPTION:The 10-year anniversary of the OpenForum Europe’s EU Open Source Policy Summit is taking place on 2 February 2024\, just before FOSDEM. The Summit is the world’s largest assembly of policymakers\, Open Source businesses\, community members\, developers\, foundations\, and experts engaged in digital policy. \n\n\n\nThe overarching policy message of this conference is an important one: strategic use of open technologies and Open Source in particular play an important role in solving digital policy challenges. The opportunities “openness” brings come in the form of decreasing vendor lock-in\, increasing the resilience of the systems in question\, while also boosting competition and innovation.  \n\n\n\nOpen Source has reached the level of policy maturity that brought significant attention to topics relating to open technologies in the Cyber Resilience Act and the AI Act\, the need for openness for interoperability in the Interoperable Europe Act\, and other policy initiatives around the globe.
